According to the Defense Ministry, 150 Taliban militants along with their commanders have given up fighting and handed over their weapons to police in Kohistanat district, Sari Pul province. More than 100 militants reportedly did the same in Balkh province.

The militants allegedly decided to join the peace process. Taliban denied these claims.

The Afghan Ministry of Internal Affairs reports about such cases from time to time, but the Taliban fighters have never given up fighting on such a scale.
