A brief overview of the recent developments in Afghanistan:

  • Pro-government sources say that Jawand district of Badghis province expirience a severe shortage of food and supplies because of a mine threat on roads and regular clashes between government forces and the Taliban;
  • Mohammad Afzal, police chief of the Warsaj district of Takhar province, and his 3 bodyguards were killed in a Taliban attack on the Takhar-Baghlan highway;
  • The Taliban released an official statement saying that ISIS militants besieged by Taliban forces in the Achin district of Nangarhar province were rescued by US-led forces. According to the statement, 229 armed ISIS fighyters and their families were transferred to Jalalabad in covered trucks under a cover of military helicopters.
