Remains Of Emirate Suicide Drones Found In Iran

The wreckage of drones made by the United Arab Emirates have been found in Iran, providing yet another evidence that the Gulf state had carried out attacks against the Islamic Republic.

On May 22, photos showing the wreckage of at least two Yabhon-type drones made by the Abu Dhabi-based Adcom Systems were released by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The guards didn’t identify the drones in the attached statement, but said that the wreckage were found among 850 unexploded ordnance which were neutralized by its bomb disposal units in the southern province of Hormozgan — located right across the Strait of Hormuz from the UAE.

The Yabhon family produced by Adcom Systems includes many types of unmanned aerial vehicles, from aerial targets, to surveillance and combat drones, in addition to one-way attack drones, and even interceptors.

The wreckage found appeared to be similar in design to the Yabhon-N, an aerial target, and the Yabhon-M, a surveillance drone.

Information on these two types, which were first unveiled more than a decade ago, are scarce, but both can reportedly be modified to carry out one-way attack missions, and with Hormozgan located just around 150 kilometers away from Emirate territories, it is certain to be within range.

This is of course not the first evidence of the UAE launching attacks against Iran after the American-Israel war on February 28.

Several Wing Loong II combat drones, made in China by Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, were shot down by Iranian defenses around April 2. Both Saudi Arabia and the UAE both operate this type of drones, but reports indicate that they were sent into Iran by the latter.

Even after a ceasefire was reached between the United States and Iran on April 8, Emirate fighter jets attacked a major Iranian petrochemical site on Lavan Island. At the time, a photo purported to show a Mirage-2000-9 of the UAE Air Force flying near the island surfaced online, and later reports suggested that the attack was carried out in coordination with Israel.

In recent weeks, tensions between Iran and the UAE reached an unprecedented level, with the Islamic Republic renewing strikes on the Gulf state following reports exposing the secret deployment of Israeli forces there and wartime visits by senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Currently immense diplomatic efforts to bring the war to a permanent end are underway. However, there is still no notable progress.

If the war resumes, which is highly likely, Iran will likely hit the UAE harder than before. Abu Dhabi could also join the American-Israeli alliance from the get go.
