Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on July 24 that the last remaining building of an Amazon data center in Bahrain had been struck and destroyed as part of the latest phase of “Operation Nasr-2.”
In a statement, the IRGC said its forces hit the final building of the data center during the 27th wave of the operation, describing it as a continuation of earlier strikes on the same site. The IRGC claimed the center played a significant role in supporting the U.S. military by processing and supplying intelligence.
The Corps also referenced what it called an “uprising of the Iranian people,” saying public support would allow the country’s armed forces to continue their operations. It concluded by stating that the “punitive operations of the Islamic fighters” would continue.
The facility is Amazon Web Services’ “me-south-1” data center. Located near the town of Zallaq on Bahrain’s western coast, it serves as a cornerstone of the company’s Middle East cloud infrastructure, delivering low-latency computing, storage, and artificial intelligence services across the region while supporting regional digital transformation efforts.
Amazon Web Services has never publicly disclosed the precise standalone cost of “me-south-1,” but comparable data centers typically cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
The IRGC had targeted the data center just three days earlier, and satellite images published by Iranian state media since then showed significant damage.

Tech companies came under fire throughout the earlier stages of the United States-Israeli conflict with Iran. In March, apps and digital services in the United Arab Emirates reported outages following Iranian drone strikes on Amazon Web Services data centers in the Gulf region, with “me-south-1” in Bahrain also damaged at that time. The total cost of the losses was never disclosed.
Later, in April, the IRGC threatened attacks on a range of U.S tech companies operating in the Middle East, including Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, and Google.
Neither Bahrain nor Amazon Web Services has commented on the IRGC’s latest claim. Given that Iran has reportedly struck the data center more than once before, the claim that the facility has now been completely destroyed is plausible, though it remains unconfirmed by independent sources.
