A brief overview of the recent developments in Afghanistan:

• A US contractor was captured by the Taliban in Khost province last week, Newsweek claims;
• 12 civilians were killed or injured in mortar shelling in the province of Farah;
• The Taliban said that 20 government fighters were killed or injured in recent clashes in the Saydabad district of Wardak province;
• The Taliban allegedly ambushed a government forces convoy on the Jawzjan-Saripul highway. 6 people were reportedly killed.
