A brief overview of the recent developments in Afghanistan:
- The Associated Press claims that the Taliban Council agreed on the nation-wide ceasefire as a step towards a wider peace deal;
- Governemnt forces cleared the Herat-Ghor highway from Taliban forces, government sources claimed;
- At least 20 Taliban members were killed in recent clashes in the provinces of Kunduz and Balkh, government sources claim;
- 17 pro-government fighters were reportedly killed in clashes with the Taliban in the Khawajah Bahawodin district, Takhar province.
Afghanistan….another mission accomplished, except 25 years later, it isn’t.
The Taliban are not going away, but the US eventually will, so the Taliban are biding their time, acquiring western equipment and picking their targets.
