Truce Expires Without Extension: Russia-Ukraine Strikes Resume

After a three-day truce that was in effect from May 9 to 11, Russia resumed long-range strikes on Ukrainian territory. Neither side announced an extension of the pause, and immediately after it expired, long-range aviation and drone operations returned to their previous pattern — although the intensity of the first attacks was lower, given the accumulation of assets during the break.

On the night of May 12, the Russian Armed Forces struck targets in eight regions of Ukraine. According to monitoring groups, 216 unmanned aerial vehicles were launched from Russian territory. The Ukrainian side reported 192 drones shot down or suppressed.

The most concentrated use of UAVs occurred in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The targets were key industrial and transport infrastructure facilities.

In the suburb of Samara (formerly Novomoskovsk), a strike was carried out on an oil depot — a major fuel storage hub supporting the eastern logistics of Ukrainian forces. The fire at the facility continued into the morning after a second hit. At the same time, a locomotive near the Samara railway station was hit.

In Krynychky, the Geran drones attacked a gas compression station. Experts note that the increased strikes on gas infrastructure may indicate preparation for a new phase of escalation. A fire at a petrol station was also recorded in this area.

In the vicinity of Novomoskovsk, barrels of fuel also caught fire at a railway tie impregnation plant belonging to the Prydniprovsk Railway. In addition, drones operated near Petropavlivka and the suburbs of Dnipro — targeting warehouses and logistics sites.

Explosions occurred in the Kyiv region, in Fastiv and in Bila Tserkva.

In the vicinity of Zhytomyr, the area near an airbase came under attack. In the morning, targets were struck in three more regions — Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytskyi. In the afternoon, a UAV strike disabled the 110/6 kV Kramatorsk-Gorod electrical substation.

Drones Over Russian Territory

On the night of May 12, Russian forces reported destroying 27 UAVs. Drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Voronezh, and Rostov regions. In the Belgorod region, four municipalities were hit by drone strikes.

The most notable incident occurred in the Orenburg region. An attack was reported on the Orsk Oil Refinery in the city of Orsk.

In his evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the strike on Orenburg was carried out by Ukrainian forces. He stated that the target was the gas industry. Additionally, further attacks on Russian oil infrastructure can be expected.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Martsynyiv, and Ukrainian monitoring groups report that a massive bombardment of Ukrainian territory is expected in the next two days. According to their data, dozens of missiles and a “record” number of drones will be used.

The situation is exacerbated by reports that Ukraine has almost exhausted its PAC-3 interceptors for Patriot air defense systems — the only means capable of shooting down ballistic and hypersonic missiles, including Kinzhal. In this regard, analysts do not rule out that the upcoming attack could occur in two waves: first, a reconnaissance-in-force to “probe” the air defense system, and then — if it becomes clear that the system is failing — a second, more massive wave of strikes.

Against this backdrop, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with military personnel, during which a number of notable statements were made. The commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Karakayev, reported the successful test of the new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of carrying nuclear warheads. According to Putin, the range of the Sarmat could exceed 35,000 kilometers. The system is being built to replace the Voyevoda and significantly surpasses its predecessor in range.

Putin also reminded that the Oreshnik medium-range missile system could be equipped with nuclear warheads and stated that work on the Poseidon and Burevestnik systems is in its final stages. The Russian army, in his words, is successfully using the Kinzhal systems during the special military operation and continues to work on improving their accuracy with non-nuclear warheads.

Thus, the three-day pause has ended with a return to mutual strikes, and the coming days, by all indications, will bring a new wave of escalation — now against the backdrop of Russia’s demonstration of its strategic capabilities.

it is incompatible to be the business manager of the oligarchy and at the same time win a war of these destructive characteristics. the road map must be to demolish kiev decision centers and some embassies, and second to attack some industrial plants in eu countries.
