Ukrainian Logistics Collapse in Zaporozhye

On the Zaporozhye direction, Russian units have established fire control over the Orekhov–Omelnyk road and entered the northwestern part of Orekhov, which, according to incoming reports, has largely come under Russian control. In the Krasny Liman direction, Ukrainian units achieved tactical successes, consolidating in several settlements and cutting off the salient north of Krasny Liman, which calls into question a further assault on the city. In the Sumy region, heavy positional fighting continued; Russian assault groups advanced on 18 sectors in forest belts and near Khoten. In the Kharkiv direction, Russian units repelled a counterattack near Kazachya Lopan, destroyed three tanks and disrupted a prepared attack, and also captured Shevchenkovo and Shirokoye. Meanwhile, the founder of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – For Reason and Justice party proposed that former German Chancellors Angela Merkel and Gerhard Schröder act as mediators in achieving peace in Ukraine.

Zaporozhye direction

North of Orekhov, units of the “East” grouping advanced from Chervona Krynytsia, taking a number of Ukrainian strongpoints, and reached the Orekhov–Omelnyk road, establishing fire control over it.

From Novopavlovka, units of the “Dnepr” grouping reached Orekhov’s main logistics route—the Orekhov–Kamyshevakha road—and entered the northwestern part of the city.

According to operational information, Orekhov as a whole is already under the control of Russian units; clearing and consolidation are under way. Fighting continues in Preobrazhenka, on the other bank of the Konka River.

Ukrainian units still hold a defensive area in the vicinity of Omelnyk. Nevertheless, the Orekhov defensive node of Ukrainian forces is in its death throes, despite all efforts by the Ukrainian side to restore control over it. The main assault actions are taking place in the Orekhov sector, where paratroopers of the 299th and 217th Regiments are breaking through Ukrainian defenses on the western flank.

Logistics from Zaporizhzhia to Orekhov along the main road have been paralyzed for Ukrainian troops. Russian units have taken control of the adjacent village of Novopavlovka with a number of fortifications and have closely approached Yurkovka and Novoandreevka. Inside Orekhov itself, fighting is under way in the city center near Gogol Street.

Krasny Liman direction

In the Krasny Liman direction, Ukrainian units of the 3rd Army Corps and attached formations have gone over to active operations and achieved tactical successes that call into question a further assault on the city of the same name.

Ukrainian formations have consolidated in Novosyolovka, Yarovaya, Aleksandrovka and Sredneye, where Russian infiltration groups operated earlier this year. Today Ukrainian units posted footage with flags from the indicated settlements. The salient north of Krasny Liman has been largely cut off by the Ukrainian side, and Russian artillery is already striking Kolodezi, from which Russian units are being pressed.

East of the Zherebets River, according to some reports, Ukrainian sabotage groups are operating after crossing near the Zhuravka gully and attempting to enter Terny and Yampolovka. Supply for the Russian bridgehead west of Liman previously ran through these villages, and Ukrainian activity here indicates the difficulty of the situation on both banks of the river.

Russian troops have lost some positions in the forests south of the city, where Ukrainian units are increasing activity with the aim of pushing the assault troops away from Krasny Liman and claiming full control over it. Further restoration of Russian positions in the city is becoming an extremely difficult task.

This setback does not yet amount to a strategic defeat, but it will prolong the assault on the approaches to Slavyansk, since the northern flank of the “South” grouping is now uncovered against possible counterattacks. Worse still, Ukrainian drone operators will be able to cut communications on the forward edge.

Sumy direction

In the Sumy region, heavy positional fighting continues. Russian units are advancing in Sumy district with the support of artillery and aviation. The Ukrainian side continues to rely on the mass use of drones.

Russian aviation, artillery and drone crews struck concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment in the areas of Sumy, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Gnilitsa, Khoten, Velikaya Chernetchina, Pustogorod, Tolstodubovo and Stepok.

In Sumy district, Russian assault troops advanced on 18 sectors through forest belts, as well as near Khoten. In Shostka district, Russian units are conducting small-arms fighting near Tolstodubovo.

Kharkiv direction

The situation is characterized by attempts by Ukrainian units to regain lost positions near Kazachya Lopan and by the rapid advance of Russian forces in the area of the encircled Ukrainian grouping.

Near Kazachya Lopan the Ukrainian side conducted a counterattack with forces of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. The attack was repelled by comprehensive fire strikes. Preparation by Ukrainian units for a counterattack using armored vehicles was also uncovered. Near Zolochiv a large concentration of forces of the 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade and three tanks were detected; the Ukrainian side intended to attack Russian positions near Kazachya Lopan with them. Precision FPV-drone strikes destroyed the tanks, Ukrainian personnel suffered losses, and the attack was disrupted.

In the Liptsy direction, Russian units are expanding their zone of control near Goptovka. In the Volchansk direction, Russian assault groups captured Shevchenkovo. There is also progress in the areas of Petropavlovka and Novoaleksandrovka. On the Veliky Burluk direction the village of Shirokoye has been taken. Russian assault troops have advanced significantly near Olkhovatka and continue to push Ukrainian units away from the Russian border.

Conclusion

In the Zaporozhye direction the key success was the establishment of control over Orekhov and key logistics routes, which has paralyzed the supply of the Ukrainian grouping. In the Krasny Liman direction, Ukrainian units achieved tactical successes, consolidating in a number of settlements and cutting off the salient north of Krasny Liman, which complicated a further assault on the city and required additional efforts by the Russian command to stabilize the flanks. In the Sumy region, heavy positional fighting continues; Russian assault groups are advancing in forest belts and near Khoten. In the Kharkiv direction, Russian units repelled a counterattack near Kazachya Lopan, destroyed three tanks and disrupted a prepared attack, and also captured Shevchenkovo and Shirokoye, continuing to push Ukrainian forces away from the border.

Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – For Reason and Justice party, stated that former German Chancellors Angela Merkel and Gerhard Schröder could act as mediators in achieving peace in Ukraine. “Both of them would have the authority to resume dialogue with Moscow in order to stop the dangerous spiral of escalation and end the bloodshed in Ukraine,” she wrote on the social network X. In her view, German politicians could be nominated for this role by the new prime minister of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern after the elections in that region.

On September 15, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the militant remarks by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, made at a conference of heads of German diplomatic missions in Berlin, in no way reflect any supposed Western desire for negotiations on Ukraine. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Russia has no illusions about the real plans of the European Union regarding participation in a settlement in Ukraine. The diplomat emphasized that Volodymyr Zelensky is putting forward insolent and unrealistic conditions to Moscow and to his European handlers for a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
