Military Situation In Libya On March 19, 2019 (Map Update)

A brief overview of the recent developments in Libya:

  • According to local sources, the Libyan National Army is slowly developing an advance on the port city of al-Zuara;
  • Local authorities finished works to restore an airstrip near Al-Kufra;
  • Unknown gunmen attacked a local administrative building in Gharyan in another sign of the chaos within the ‘GNA-controlled area’;
  • The supposed LNA advance on Sirte has not started yet. Local sources report that no advance is in fact expected.

“Several foreign powers, including those that led the NATO intervention that overthrew Libya’s government in 2011, have condemned the growing violence. A joint statement delivered by the U.S., U.K., France and Italy on Monday condemned the fighting as part of a “not acceptable” effort “to weaken the legitimate Libyan authorities and hinder the ongoing political process,” adding that “those who seek to undermine stability, in Tripoli or elsewhere in Libya [will] be made accountable for it.”
