Turkish-backed Militant Groups Clash For Syrian Border Town Of Azaz

FILE IMAGE

Violent clashes have erupted among Turkish backed militant groups in northern Syria. According to reports, the Leant Front has attacked the Sham Legion in an attempt to capture the strategic town of Azaz located near the Turkish border. Jabhat al-Shamiyah and Sultan Murad members were also reportedly involved in the battle.

Azaz is a key logistical hub used to provide supplies to pro-Turkish militants operating in the war-torn country. Azaz is also a major trafficking point between the militant-held part of northern Syria and Turkey as well as between the militant-held area and the YPG-held area in southwestern Syria. The side that controls Azaz is able to gain revenue from these.
