The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have launched a large anti-ISIS operation in the region of Handar south of Mosul.
According to pro-government sources, PMU fighters have already liberated the Hilala hill, and the villages of Ain Sadid and al-Olwani, destroying a few of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices.
Separately, Iraqi security forces (ISF) have retaken the neighborhood of al-Tanak in western Mosul after a series of firefights.
The liberation of al-tanak is an impotant step in a wider effort of ISF to retake the important ISIS-held area of Old Mosul.
