The Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant in Zaporizhzhia
On the night of September 12, 2026, Russian armed forces carried out a massive combined strike on military and industrial facilities across eight regions of Ukraine, focusing primarily on steel plants in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kryvyi Rih, as well as port infrastructure in Odesa Region. During the day and into the night of September 12–13, the strikes shifted to western regions of Ukraine, where drone attacks on transport and fuel infrastructure were recorded in Volyn, Zhytomyr, and Rivne Regions.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported strikes on the following targets:
Zaporizhzhia Region:
- The Zaporizhstal steel plant in Zaporizhzhia — one of the main suppliers of flat-rolled metal for protective structures and armor for military equipment, as well as plates for body armor.
Dnipropetrovsk Region:
- A steel plant in Kryvyi Rih that produces steel products for the manufacture of weapons and military equipment.
- The innovative electric smelting complex at Interpipe Steel in Dnipro — Ukraine’s largest producer and supplier of rolled metal for the production of military-purpose goods.
- The Northern and Novokryvorizhskyi mining and processing plants in Kryvyi Rih, which mine, process, and sinter iron ore for the production of steel products used in military manufacturing.
- A logistics center in Dnipro where military supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces were stored.
Odesa Region:
- At the port of Chornomorsk, port infrastructure facilities used for unloading and storing military cargo was hit, along with two bulk carriers that had delivered weapons and military equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and a sea tugboat.
During the day and evening of September 12, Russian forces launched Geran-2 drones at western regions of Ukraine along the border with Belarus almost without pause.
Ukraine’s Air Force says Russia launched more than 410 UAVs over the past 12 hours. As of now, strikes have been reported in Zhytomyr, Rivne, and Volyn Regions. According to Ukrainian media, Russia is expected to launch about 3,000 drones over western Ukraine alone in the next 24 hours — if that figure is confirmed, it would be a record number.
