Russian Army Opens New Front In Sumy, Gains High Ground After Storming Two Towns (Videos)

On December 20, the Russian military launched a surprise attack in Ukraine’s Sumy, crossing the border in a new area some 45 kilometers to the southeast of the region’s capital.

The attack, which is being led by the Sever [East] Group of Forces, appears to be a part of wider efforts by the Russian military to establish a security zone along the border with Ukraine. These efforts gained momentum following the failed Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Kursk, which borders Sumy, last year.

The 34th Separate Guards Mountain Motor Rifle Brigade began the new attack by breaking through Ukrainian defenses in Vysoke, one of the highest points along the border, then capturing the settlement. This was officially confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Russian troops then began advancing south of the town, along the border. The troops stormed Grabovskoe, and according to preliminary reports, the settlement had been captured.

Meanwhile, the reconnaissance groups of the Sever Group of Forces pushed deeper into Sumy, reaching as far as Taratutino, and even the train station near Krasnopillia.

Krasnopillia, which is located some eight kilometers to the west of the Russian border on a road leading to the capital of Sumy, is likely the initial target of the ongoing Russian attack. The Sever Group of Forces could reach the large settlement within a few weeks, if Kiev forces failed to organize their defenses quickly enough.

In addition to the attack in Sumy, the Sever Group of Forces have been expanding its operations around Vovchansk in Kharkiv.

Russian troops stormed Vovchanski Khutory, located to the east of Vovchansk, and managed to establish positions in the western part of the settlement. To the south of Vovchansk, the troops are still engaged in a fierce battle with Kiev forces in the southern part of Vilcha. Clashes are also taking place to the west of Vovchansk, mainly between the western outskirts of Lyman and Prylipka.

Operations around Vovchansk, which neighbor’s Russia’s Belgorod, are also a part of the efforts to create a security zone along the border with Ukraine.

All in all, the new Russian attack in Sumy represents a blow to Ukraine. Kiev forces will have to allocate much assets to stop the attack, and by doing so other directions in Sumy will likely be weakened. This just goes to show that Ukraine can no longer keep up with Russia.

the ukrainians are about to experience a collapse of morale. temperatures are now solidly below the freezing point 24/7 and even in single digits in several areas. it wouldn’t be far fetched to think russia will increase attacks on ukraine’s energy grid, also some smaller rivers will soon freeze thick enough to allow russian attack forces to advance from different unexpected directions.

in many ukrainian air photos such as the above you can recognize features belonging to previous settlements, roads and the like that now appear in the middle of a large field. possibly pre ww2 or even pre sovjet traces.

there cannot be many more brainwashed idiots willing to die for the lost cause. a cause planned by churchill who bankrupted an empire and was then voted out of office before he caused even more damage. even foreign mercenaries are thinking twice before going to die in ukraine, which means those who do fall for the bait are well below standard. those who actually get there are either treated like shit or cannot get back whence they came.
