In Video: Russian Special Forces Raid Ukrainian Fortified Post

File image.

Rare video footage showing a raid by Russian special forces on a fortified position of the Ukrainian military in the special military operation zone surfaced online on August 21.

It is unclear where exactly the raid took place. Information on such special operations are scarce, and while they are conducted by different Spetsnaz [Russian for special forces] units of the Russian military on a regular basis, they are usually kept under tight wraps.

The footage suggests that the night-time raid was carried out by a small squad, all equipped with night vision goggles and silenced assault rifles.

The special forces operators took out a few Ukrainian troops who were outside the position, before storming it. They are later seen in the footage clearing nearby trenches and a small underground bunker. Most of the position’s garrison were killed. Only the few who decided to surrender survived the raid.

What appears to be radio communication equipment and an electronic warfare system were seized by the Spetsnaz from the position.

The footage is very unique. Such videos are usually released only on the Day of Special Operations Forces, which Russia celebrates on February 27 of every year.

Since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine three years ago, all released videos have been from the zone.

Spetsnaz units are highly mobile, well-trained and equipped. They are always prepared for performing specific tasks both within the country and abroad, in peacetime and in wartime.

The Russian Ministry of Defense defines the term “special operation” as “methods and ways of fighting not characteristic of conventional forces: reconnaissance and sabotage, subversion and sedition, counter-terrorism, counter-sabotage, counterintelligence, guerrilla, counter-guerrilla and other activities”.

based on assessment we can see that russia is using the bottom of the barrel inside ukraine to refine the troops and techniques. the best is reserved for special ops and nato deterrence. russia cane out before and said that only 10% of the real forces are actually fighting, which seems possible. thats why even nk was allowed to send its troops for rare training opportunity. basically live combat training.
