United States President Donald Trump on May 7 praised the Houthis (Ansar Allah) for their “bravery,” stating that the Yemeni group appears to be committed to a ceasefire reached earlier in the week.
In his first public comments on the ceasefire, Trump said, “We had a very good outcome with the Houthis. We honor their word. They made a commitment, and we dealt with other countries that are close to them and their surrogates—we honor all of their words.”
The President went on to admit that the Houthis had shown “a great capacity to withstand punishment” during the confrontation with the U.S.
“They took tremendous punishment. You could say there’s a lot of bravery there—it was amazing what they took. But we honor their commitment. They gave us their word that they wouldn’t be shooting ships anymore, and we honor that. Hopefully, that’s over with. Just leave those ships alone,” Trump said.
The U.S military resumed strikes against the Houthis on March 15 on orders from Trump who said at the time that large-scale operation was a response to the group’s repeated attacks on Israel-affiliated shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthis renewed attacks on Israel three days later.
During the confrontation, over 1,000 targets were struck in Yemen. Houthi-run media reported the death of more than 250 people, including women and children.
Still, the Houthis were not deterred and continued to launch missile and drone strikes against Israel. In fact, the ceasefire was announced by Trump on May 6, just two days after a missile launched from Yemen hit Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel.
After the announcement, senior Houthi officials were quick to declare that the attacks on Israel will go on until the war on the Gaza Strip is over. The group went on to launch three drones at targets in Israel on May 7.
This was met with a backlash from Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue to act independently to counter threats.
In a video released on May 5, styled as a mock interview with his advisers, Netanyahu said that Israel is fully capable of defending itself without assistance if necessary.
“We are acting in Yemen and in other distant places,” he said, adding that Israel “has a long arm, and we will use it. If others join us—our American friends, for example—that’s good. But if not, we will defend ourselves on our own,” the primer added.
Israel has already launched two waves of strikes against Yemen in response to the missile attack on Ben Gurion, targeting the western province of al-Hodeidah and the capital Sanaa on May 5 and 6 respectively. While the strikes inflicted heavy damage on civilian infrastructure in Houthi-controlled areas, they are unlikely to deter the group.

logic are a terrifying thing. if russia kills europeans for something “us” have done, it will look bad in the end. they should of course kill more “americans”, but “satan” missiles seems to have hard to start. can it be the cold ? empty batteries ?
houthis prevented trumpstein from landing in israel. but he is pleading now because he has to land in saudi arabia
trump the coward, who bombs and slaughters civilians and who doesn’t even know the meaning of the word brave, couldn’t even shine the houthi’s shoes.
they are braver than you will ever know mister trump, they endured saudi bombing for years too
when trump started his first term he replaced a bust of churchill in the oval office that obama had removed. so he is arguably a student of churchill including the speech of september 28th 1944 in which churchill said: “i feel, in my turn, bound to point out that russia is holding and beating far larger hostile forces than those which face the allies in the west, and has through long years, at enormous loss, borne the brunt of the struggle on land.”
churchill broke a bombing agreement with germany to get the us into ww2 . the citizens of london and dresden paid the price .
the yemei missiles must chased the carrier groups into defensive maneuvers on multiple occasions . i heard the us just lost another plane . a carrier systems will fall apart under continuous use from simple wear and tear . us taxpayers only get more inflation for thier labor . and another no win moment in us history .
