The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) has received another batch of Su-34 fighter bombers, the press service of Rostec announced on April 19.
In a statement, the Russian state corporation said that the fighter bombers flew to their home air base after completing a series of tests at the plant.
Su-34 are manufactured at the Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association Plant. The fighter bomber was designed primarily for tactical deployment against ground and naval targets on solo and group missions in daytime and at night, under favorable and adverse weather conditions and in a hostile environment with air defense and electronic warfare deployed, as well as for aerial reconnaissance.
It has a maximum speed of Mach 1.8 at altitude and a combat radius of 1,100 kilometers with a standard 12,000 kg weapons load.
The fighter bombers deploy a wide range of precision-guided munitions, including glide bombs, land-attack cruise missiles, anti-radar missiles and anti-ship missiles. It can also be armed with short-range and beyond visual range air-to-air missiles for self-defense.
“The Su-34 is the backbone of the striking power of Russian frontline aviation. The combat duck [the Su-34’s nickname] is the best aircraft in its class. Today, it solves the most important tasks in the special military operation zone and demonstrates high efficiency, excellent maneuverability and combat qualities. The aircraft is in demand in the military, and our aircraft factories are increasing the rate of production of this machine,” said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec.
More than 120 Su-34s are currently in service with the VKS, including nearly two dozen from the latest M version which features upgraded radar, sight, and communication systems. Rostec noted in its statement that the production of the fighter bomber has more than doubled in the last two years.
