In 2024, more than 300 thousand servicemen signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense and were trained to take part in the Special Military Operation in Ukraine. The number was revealed by the Head of the Main Directorate of Combat Training of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Initially the Ministry of Defense formed nine reserve regiments for all groups in the zone of the Special military Operation in Ukraine. At the end of last year, the policy of formation of reserves were revised, each army participating in the operations in Ukraine received a reserve regiment.
According to the official data, during the partial mobilization in the autumn of 2022, about 300 thousand soldiers also joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The current average annual rate of recruitment of new servicemen allows the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to make up losses and save reserves for further hostilities.
