U.S. Navy Intercepts Another Drone Launched From Yemen Over Red Sea

A United States Navy warship shot down a drone on November 29 launched from a part of Yemen controlled by the Houthis (Ansar Allah), the American military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

“At approximately 1100 (Sanaa time), while in the South Red Sea, the Arleigh-Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG 64) shot down an Iranian-produced KAS-04 unmanned aerial vehicle launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

“Although its intentions are not known, the UAV was heading toward the warship,” which was escorting a U.S. Navy oiler and a U.S.-flagged ship carrying military equipment, the command said, adding that “there were no injuries to U.S. personnel and no damage to U.S. vessels.”

Several different attack and reconnaissance versions of the KAS-04 fixed-wing drone are in service with the Houthis, who call it the “Samad”.

The Houthis, who control a large part of Yemen and maintain a large arsenal of missiles and drones, are a part of the so-called “Axis of Resistance” which is backed by Iran and opposes Israel.

After the start of the war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip, the Houthis launched several attacks with missiles and drones against Israel. The group also seized an Israeli-owned ship on November 19 and vowed to target any other one that approaches Yemen.

The U.S. has previously taken action to foil the Houthis attacks. The U.S. Navy downed missiles and drones launched from Yemen on October 19, one drone on November 15 and multiple drones on November 23. Meanwhile, the Houthis shot down an American combat drone on November 8.

Neither Israel or the U.S. has yet responded against Yemen in any way, likely to avoid more escalation by the battle-hardened Houthis.

the kas-04 is the same as the samad-3 which is cheap ,small slow and clumsy and not very accurate so not much for the us navy to brag about here.

the u.s. navy has become a joke. they’re afraid not just of iran but even of houthis. it was houthis that boarded the central park tanker not somali pirates and it was houthis who fired ballistic missiles on the uss mason. the sissies in the navy are afraid to respond because they know their carrier eisenhower would get sunk in the bathtub of the persian gulf.
