On October 21, two unidentified suicide drones attacked al-Dabba oil terminal in the eastern Yemen province of Hadhramaut.

The attack took place as a Greek-owned oil tanker, Nissos Kea, was approaching the terminal to unload a shipment. Both suicide drones landed near the large tanker. However, no casualties or material losses were reported.

The drones were reportedly launched from the administrative border between the central province of Ma’rib and the northern province of al-Jawf.

Governor of Hadhramaut, Mabkhout bin Madi, held the Houthis (Ansar Allah) responsible for the attack. In a video message, the governor said that the group sent threats to the company that owns Nissos Kea as well as to PetroMasila, the national oil company operating al-Dabba terminal, early on in October.

This was not the first such attack. Bin Madi revealed that two suicide drones attacked al-Nashimah port in the central province of Shabwah on October 19. The attack didn’t result in any losses, according to the governor.

The Houthis possess a large arsenal of suicide drones, some of which can attack targets located more than 2,500 kilometers away.

After the ceasefire in Yemen on October 2, the Houthis threatened the Saudi-backed Yemeni government. The group demanded the government to pay the salaries of state employees in its areas of influence from the national oil revenue. This demand was the main reason behind the collapse of the ceasefire.

The attacks on al-Nashimah port and al-Dabba oil terminal may lead to a new confrontation in Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition could respond to the attacks by resuming airstrikes on Houthi-held areas.
