ISIS have been active in Sinai for more than six years now. The terrorist group’s cells are mainly present in the northern part of the peninsula.

After sustaining serious losses as a result of repeated Egyptian military and security operations, ISIS cells in Sinai are now limiting their attacks. Starting this year, terrorists began relying more and more on improvised explosive devices, snipers and small-scale raids.

Despite inflicting some losses on Egyptian government forces, ISIS cells in Sinai remain incapable of holding ground or plotting large-scale attacks.
