YPG Recaptures Birsaya Mount East Of Afrin From Turkish Forces - Reports

Turksih troops are at Birsaya Mount

On January 22 evening, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and other Kurdish militias recaptured Birsaya Mount from the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) after a rapid counter-attack, according to pro-Kurdish sources.

The FSA supported by units of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) captured the mount in the morning. However, Ankara’s proxies were not able to consoldidate their gains and retreated from the area.

Pro-FSA sources argue that the FSA retreated from Birsaya Mount in order to avoid some “night ambush”. However, other sources say that the FSA just abandoned its forward positions after YPG/YPJ shelled them with artillery and launched a counter-attack.

Currently, the strategic mount remains contested. On January 23, the FSA, backed by the TAF, will likely make another attempt to establish control over it.

What the heck ! Go on Erdogan, erase those terrorist kurds !

Deo Cass

Unfortunately even the FSA are terrorists. So this is a contest between terrorists with the Syrian Arab state paying the consequences.

Daniel Castro

Well, at least they are killing each other, Syria already paid the price anyway.

Pál Póli

Turykey once was the “sick man of Europe” now is “the sick man of the world” .

PZIVJ

But RichardD has been hate spamming me with many large pix the last few days. I guess you have blocked him ?

Ice Icegold

They are so arrogant … acting like they have nuclear weapons…
Someone has to teach them a lesson.

Claire Langoulant

USA and IsraHell are the sick men of the world !

Holy Gark

Dear Claire,

Please note who owns/runs them both: the oligarchs behind the British Empire.

It was them who hijacked the US’ economy with the creation of the “Federal” Reserve and it was them who created Israel*.

The symbiosis between the US and Israel was planned. Please read and see yourself: http://wlym.com/archive/PDF-77-85/CAM7812.pdf

* The idea of a Jewish homeland in the Middle East originated with Gottfried Leibniz who wanted to create a lucrative trade route between the Middle East and Europe (with Germany and France in charge). Napoleon copied the idea after his return from Egypt. And later the oligarchs of the British Empire hijacked the concept and saw the Jews as a mean to make it happen in order to control the region and it’s geoassets (Suez Canal, newly discovered oil, etc).

OmerAytac

Turkey – with a trillion dollar economy, big guns, educated population sitting at the center of the world- I wouldn’t call sick. The EU is the sick man today.

Holy Gark

The more pesky Kurds dead, the better.

Travis Kelso

Turkey has done messed up, YPG now fighting for the win.

Wegan

What? Nope.

Travis Kelso

lets see who has more resolve.

Tom Tom

Yep.

Wegan

Relax guys, It’s a battle there is back and forth to it. Turkey will eventually overwhelm the Kurds. It could be delayed if the SDF and the US intervene, but they will get it done. Too much more fire power, the Kurds can only resist so much.

BL

It all depends on how much and how well they have been armed by the US. Even a small militia can withstand a large army for a long time if they are well armed and well prepared. We’ll find out soon enough.

Emir Hasimbegovic

Turkish military is silently aware of its own weaknesses.Over a quarter of the top brass of the Turkish military have ended up in jail . The FSA is like Sudanese soldiers whom Saudi Arabia has recruited to fight there as part of the coalition

dutchnational

Funny is you are talking about the “FSA”. There is no the FSA. It is only a loose coalition of warlords and islamist in many factions, mutually hostile and they have been killing eachother the whole last year in the Azaz colony. There is no discipline, no cohesion and a low morale/fighting spirit. They fight for money and have no stomach for large lossess.

Bill Wilson

That’s a real lousy region to invade during the cold wet winter months. The paved roads leading in are easily defended while the rest to the sides will quickly become impassable muddy morasses. Tayyip must of came up with this fool adventure since no real general with a lick of sense would’ve considered it.

PZIVJ

Has the rainfall been heavy or light for Afrin area?
Hoping to see the FSA dogs take a real beating as they advance.

Solomon Krupacek

it rains or snows, PZIVJ goes.

Solomon Krupacek

ouch, this beauty i did not know :)

dutchnational

Heavy rain was reported during the demonstrations against Turkey. When one looks at the registered rain patterns one can see that most of the rain is in januari to april, often even a few days of snow. I made this point several times in the last months. Seems Erdogan and his advisors cannot read.

Wegan

Still, the pocket is small and they are surrounded by Turkey north and west, HTS south and FSA east, no where to go. A matter of time and everybody knows it, that’s why americans are not helping, there is no point. The SDF will not open a front on the east it’s lost for the kurds, the best option is to leave and go est with the SDF to consolidate power for an eventual attack from the Turks.

dutchnational

If you look at the map, in the south east Afrin borders Aleppo city and countryside and in the middle south, they have the Nubbol enclave.

The area between Manbij area and eastern part of Shabha region is controlled by SAA south of Al Bab and SDF uses that area for unhindered reinforcements and resupply.

Maybe bleeding TSK and TFSA enough in Afrin will prevent an attack on Manbij.

Tom Tom

Nope.

That Guy

Let them kill each other.

Sadde

What is happening to comment section in Southfront, too many racist pronunciation against kurds…

Ivanus59

lol these are Turkoid bots, lucky that they only appear in reports that include both Turkoids and Kurds.

Solomon Krupacek

and who are you? only number in gulag …

You can call me Al

Yes jolly shocking……LOL

Sadde

not especially fun

Solomon Krupacek

ketray nade by kurds was really not fun.
kill all ypg member!!!

PZIVJ

So now YOU WELCOME FSA INTO AFRIN. This is great. LOL
And when will they leave?

Solomon Krupacek

putin welcomes, not me.

i only applause for the less wrong thing. if saa does not kill ypg terrorists, the at least turkish army. syria has been already sold out by ruskies. assad can take some dozens km2-s and everywhere will see STOP!/HALT! boards.

PZIVJ

Looks like Turkey and FSA will be able to take a chunk of Afrin after a tough fight.
But it is Erdogan who will be facing the STOP line. And the Kurds/SDF may come to an understanding with Syria after all, without the US coalition involved at all.
Best outcome I think.

Solomon Krupacek

I hope. But what i see, i am already skeptic. Dont forget, the turkish airforce operates in that space, where without russian permission also the flies can not move. :(

as

Simple. Kurds allied themselves with Middle East mutual enemy. For profit by force. Nobody likes sellouts.

Solomon Krupacek

kurds are race? ow wait, race for raqqa …

Thedutchdude

Tunn Al amani Allah Akbar asback ree die jihad long allah. Yeah it’s my impression of a terrorist.

Pommy Pie

Arab ash’n’Trash ..can’t accomplish anything without overwhelming firepower

GSi2018

Well even that doesnt help them. Just look at the Saudis and all their wealth and F15s, Abrams etc.

The Turkey attacked Afrin area because US delivered MANPAD to SDF.

The liberation of Abu Ad Duhur military airbase, the town of Abu Ad Duhur and a big chunk of land are the significant achievements of the Syrian and its allied forces. Syria is in the final stages of a battle against Zionist terrorists. Now the war against Zionist terrorists will be accelerated.

Graeme Rymill

“The Turkey attacked Afrin area because US delivered MANPAD to SDF”

Repeating rumours over and over again doesn’t make them any the more true….

Please show some evidence, any evidence, that manpads were delivered.

Even SouthFront refers to this as just rumours:

“However, they were not able to provide any evidence to confirm that the so-called “secret deal” between the sides really exists and the SDF had received the MANPADs.”

Well that is going to be a long war if the fsa is afraid of night ambushes on every hill. Another ping pong after al bab.

Agreed on your assessment of TFSA.

I do think this will only have one ping though. YPG will have assessed how TFSA could get to the top and will be blocking that route.

During the Al Bab campaign it was noted that at night TFSA forces often went back to sleep at home and resume the fights the next day. YPG forces have been trained in night fighting so one can expect the Kobane scenario. During the day TFSA and TSK will gain some grounds and will lose most of it during the night.

To anyone wondering whats going on: The Turks have overwhelmed the SDF on several fronts, even though the kurds had years to fortify their positions in Afrin. Note that this is only day 3 of the operation and yet its unfolding very quickly. 1 Turkish soldier have been reported dead so far, I wonder how many SDF soldiers the turks have managed to kill…

https://twitter.com/op_shield/status/955463350951038976

Bill Wilson

The SDF has ran out the Turks from every point except two in the north where they were able to advance further inside Afrin.

dutchnational

Now just one point.

Graeme Rymill

Here’s another viewpoint:

“According to Al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Joudeh, so far the Turkish Army and Free Syrian Army groups subordinated to it have not managed to capture any strategic or high-value areas within Afrin in what is now their third day of operations against Kurdish forces
throughout the region.”

https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/kurdish-forces-recapture-key-mountain-afrin-sending-turkey-led-islamists-running-battlefield/

Little Turkish men cannot defeat Kurds in a fair fight. Or even in an unfair fight. Go back to Turkey, little men.

Its a win, win, win, win win, for Syria, Iraq, Russia, Iran and China!

richardbraverman

wait a minute, the FSA, along with ISIS, is the Army that Obama, the CIA and the DOD sank multiple billions of dollars in taxpayer money for cash, weapons and training.
After five years of combat, these clowns are afraid of taking a hill?
Can we have our money back? Can we send Obama?
