Yemeni Minister Claims Iranian Military Advisor Was Killed In Saudi Airstrike

On August 21, Muammar al-Iryani, Minister of Media in the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, claimed that an Iranian military advisor who was supporting the Houthis (Ansar Allah) was killed in the central Yemeni province of Ma’rib.

According to al-Iryani, the advisor, allegedly called “Heydar Sirjan,” was killed along with nine other people, including two Colonels of the Houthis “Musa al-Qahazi” and “Ahmed al-Sahari,” when a warplane of the Saudi-led coalition bombed their position in the district of Sirwah.

Sirjan was allegedly training the Houthis’ infantry on mountain warfare and preparing tactical combat plans for the group. He served on the frontlines of the western Yemeni coast until June 5.

The advisor was moved to Ma’rib frontlines, where the Houthis have been leading a large offensive against Saudi forces, on June 7 to replace Mustafa al-Ghazawi, an alleged Hezbollah advisor who was killed earlier.

“We call on the international community, the United Nations and the permanent members of the Security Council to issue firm stances regarding Iran’s blatant interference in Yemeni affairs,” al-Iryani wrote on Twitter.

The Yemeni minister did not provide any evidence to back his claims, which may be nothing more than a propaganda stunt.

While Iran is known to be the main ally of the Houthis, it continues to deny any direct involvement in the conflict. Tehran usually respond to any attack on its forces inside or outside of its territory.

If the information revealed by al-Iryani are true, Iran will most certainly respond to the death of Sirjan either directly or through the Houthis.

Critical Thinking 101:

Always ask what representative made the claim and who they represent – in this case a Saudi Quisling.
