According to the United States Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had a meeting with the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez.
The main talking points were concerns over the safety of US diplomats in Havana, and Cuban government’s involvement in the infamous “acoustic attacks”.
The meeting was firm, but sincere and reflected a “deep concern regarding safety of US diplomats.”
The Secretary of State also indicated that the situation was very serious, and accentuated the fact that Cuba’s government must protect the consulate personnel and their families according to the Vienna Convention.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs in turn stressed the fact that the investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and cooperation from the US is necessary for it to reach completion. As of now, Cuban government has not discovered any conclusive evidence regarding reasons and sources of US diplomats’ health issues.
Rodríguez said that politicizing such matters and acting hastily without proof or investigation would be a regrettable thing to do.
The US diplomats in Cuba have suffered an affliction linked to sound waves. They’ve had experienced migraines, dizziness, nausea, temporal memory loss along with loss of hearing. The Cuban government denies its involvement in the incident.
