Just a few days after signals of a possible US-Russian detente following the meeting between Trump and Putin, the US Department of Defense announcea $200m in military aid to Ukraine.
This sum is dedicated to provide Ukraine with equipment needed for ongoing training programs and operationa needs. According to the released statement, this amount will bring the total US military assistance to Ukraine to more than $1 billion since 2014.
The Kiev government will continue to use the US military aid to pressure forces of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics in eastern Ukraine. This pressure goes in contrary to the so-called Minsk agreements, which were designed to de-escalate the situation in the region. Thus, the Ukrainian government is acting in the direction of a steady escalation in the area and implementation of a “military solution” in its conflict with the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
The Department of Defense’s statement (source):
“The Department of Defense announced today that they will provide $200 million to Ukraine in security cooperation funds for additional training, equipment and advisory efforts to build the defensive capacity of Ukraine’s forces.
This reaffirms the long-standing defense relationship between the United States and Ukraine and brings the total U.S. security sector assistance to Ukraine to more than $1 billion since 2014.
The added funds will provide equipment to support ongoing training programs and operational needs, including capabilities to enhance Ukraine’s command and control, situational awareness systems, secure communications, military mobility, night vision, and military medical treatment.
The security cooperation builds on Ukraine’s recent adoption of the Law on National Security. This law, which provides a legislative framework for aligning Ukraine’s national security architecture with Euro-Atlantic principles, constitutes a major step toward Ukraine’s goal of achieving NATO interoperability. The implementation of these reforms will bolster Ukraine’s ability to defend its territorial integrity in support of a secure and democratic Ukraine.
A timeline for delivery and fielding of equipment will be determined at a later date.”
Putin should be vigilant because US converting Ukrainian nation into a new barbaric force to destabilize the Eastern part of Europe at the West of Russia. This force will be more dangerous than Israel and ISIS.
Not only that but Ukrainians by enlarge are not typically smart people I am not sure if they realize they will only get token support being a Russian border country not the EU. NATO or the US will fight Russia on land that close to Russia in that part of the world they will lose every time they simply cannot muster a force big enough in a reasonable time frame in addition they will not have control of the airspace all their communications will be compromised while being pounded buy the longer range Russian artillery which they have huge edge in and this goes back to the Nato US EU not having control of the airspace those sexy images of A-10S etc flying low striking there targets at will simply will not happen aircraft like that will only be effective against a weak opponent that has no air defence and cannot fight back this is reality, If this part in a different region or part of the world then yes the outcome would be different, It would seem to me that the Ukraine is getting some bad advice and then acting on it not recognizing the political reality and the geographical region that they are located in?
Netanyahu preaching every regime in the world that I am very smart and learn from my experience. Modi in India now repenting that why I act on Netanyahu advice. Modi was allied with Russia but now Russia don’t trust Modi.
Regimes in US, UK, Ukraine, Georgia etc. take advice from Netanyahu. Just wait 2020 and see. They all will repent.
Netanyahu is the new Hitler, the true blond leader of the master race.
“advice” LOL. He is just another puppet.
They will just resell their “aid” to Chechens and other terrorists.
Putin and Russia would be wise not to trust Trump. He is under pressure to toe the line with idiotic Russiaphobia. Also, he speaks with two mouths so difficult to know what’s true or not.
That makes Ukraine one of the largest receivers of US aid. Although, the manner of how this aid is given is more open to question. Wouldn’t it be better to have a US base in Kiev instead of giving Kiev to much a free hand? The US will not tollerate war with Russia becauses nukes, Kiev has no nukes and can blitz to seize their objective.
…
So we have here a conflict of interests…
Israel gets more aid in a week than that. It’s expensive supporting 5 million people.
Dude, do the math, look a few things up, then rephrase that.
US tax revenue –> “aid” –> Wall Street profits.
Only if you believe in communism…
It would be better if Ukraine declared neutrality. A US base in Ukraine is a guarantee full scale war.
That’s an oxymoron, this is still techically a Ukrainian civil war. If you mean be neutral in a larger cold war that is also difficult at best since there is an economic codependency between the two states. Then there’s a probable bias here since that policy change would do nothing except BENEFIT RUSSIA.
Also, as stated the US and Russia will never fight each other directly, because nukes.
It’s a detail linked to the existence of this site. I’ve noticed the livemap for Ukraine has more recently taken on a new character in representing the activity along the conflict line.
Lots of red, and a suggestion to the ‘virtuous’ absence of blue.

That map is awfully pro ukraine
Isn’t it?

I doubt there is any money, just weapons.
The US is bankrupt.
My mil stocks are going up!
Perhaps Russia can deliver $200 million in surface to surface missiles to Venezuela in case the US tries anything?
Russia wouldn’t throw valuable weapons away just to have them used in the coming civil war in that bankrupt, failed state.
Yeah, true. Well maybe Cuba then. It got the US quite agitated last time, now they need a reminder of how it feels.
Who are the failed state reply me fast
Russia can equal USA military equipment by a factor of 1/3. So Russia needs only $70 million to equal USA $200 million weapons.
