US Airstrike Killed 3 Al-Shabaab Militnats In Somalia (Map)

The US military said it had killed three militants in an airstrike on al-Shabaab’s encampment in the Golis Mountains in Somalia on May 24.

“Persistent pressure on the network ensures the threat is ‘contained while degrading Al Shabaab capabilities. We will continue to provide assistance to the Federal Government of Somalia,” U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert Huston, deputy director of operations, U.S. Africa Command, was quoted as saying in a statement on AFRICOM’s website.

AFRICOM said no civilians were killed or injured in the airstrike.

The airstrike followed a terrorist attack in the Somalia capital of Mogadishu. On May 22, an Al-Shabaab SVBIED explosion killed at least 14 people, including Somalia’s former foreign minister, near the presidential palace in the capital.

Meanwhile, an intense fighting between al-Shabaab and pro-government forces was reported at a military base in the Bilis Qoqani area located in the outskirts of Afmadow town in Lower Jubba region.
