On the night of January 19, Ukrainian forces launched attacks on the Russian regions. At least two drones were detected over the Russian territory.
One of the UAVs targeted an oil depot in the town of Klintsy in the Russian border Bryansk region. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that one Ukrainian UAV was intercepted by Russian air defense forces in the early morning. However, the drone dropped the explosive in a fuel tank before it was destroyed by Russian forces.
As a result of the attack, large fire broke out on the facility. At least four fuel tanks caught fire. The head of the Bryansk region confirmed tha attack, saying that special equipment is used to extinguish the fire, including a firefighting train. For security reasons, 32 local residents were evacuated. Russian services control the concentration of harmful substances in the air. No one was wounded as a result of the attack.
Another target of the night attacks was one of the largest powder factories in Russia. At night, Ukrainian UAV was found near the 3rd workshop of the Tambov powder factory located in the city of Kotovsk in the Tambov region.
For some reason, the drone missed its target and fell in the area. The drone was discovered by the local employees and it was evacuated by the military. Sappers came to the area of the incident, they took the UAV with them.
The failed attack resulted in no damage. The head of the region claimed that the factory is operating normally. The situation is under control.
It is not clear if the UAV was intercepted by Russian air defence forces or it fell as a result of some malfunction. However, the UAV managed to pass a considerable distance to reach the Tambov region which is not located near the Ukrainian border.
The local powder factory is of strategic importance. It is one of the largest factories producing pyroxylin powder for all types of weapons and artillery systems. In addition, it is the main supplier of armor-piercing sub-caliber rounds for tanks.
If it was not intercepted by Russian forces, the fact that the drone reached the area of the facility may be consider as a victory of the Ukrainian military, despite the fact that the attack itself failed. An UAV is unlikely to inflict heavy damage to such a large factory, but Kiev is unlikely to stop attempts to attack Russian strategic rear facilities to inflict at least some damage to the military supplies to the front.
