Ukrainian Troops Began to Fight Each Other

National battalions of Ukraine, in particular the Right Sector and the Azov, have started to shell positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the Izvestiya newspaper reported, citing Deputy Commander of the DPR Operational Command, Eduard Basurin. The situation is becoming tenser with the approach of the heating season. Already now, Ukrainian soldiers, who are in the rear, try to provide themselves with coal, although they get it, looting, Basurin noted.

According to the deputy commander, Ukrainian troops prepare for the winter, and, in this way, directly affect interests of local residents in the areas, where they stop. He noted that Ukrainian soldiers “begin to provide themselves with coal and wood,” and “take it away from local residents.”

“The situation is worsening. Heretofore, artillery was not used here, unless occasionally at nights. Now artillery also operates both at night and in the daytime,” Basurin added.

The situation on the contact line is also heating up by the third force that as it seems, is not controlled by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, – national battalions, which, according to the Law ‘On the National Guard of Ukraine’, adopted in 2014, are a part of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry and must obey the commander of the National Guard and the Supreme Commander – the president of the country.

“We note that there, where they [national battalions] appear, activation and exacerbation begin. The Azov has recently come here, the Donbass is here, so, the escalation occurred,” Basurin said. “We also note that they fire on positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The 36th Brigade is deployed here, the 73rd center of psychological operations has also been noticed here. Therefore, the situation itself is very complicated.”

As Commissioner for Human Rights in the DPR, Daria Morozova, told Izvestiya, confrontation between the battalions and the Ukrainian Armed Forces can be traced from the beginning of the conflict, which indicates full insubordination of military to the Kiev’s government. Moreover, according to Morozova, fire is also conducted in the opposite direction – Ukrainian military also fires at positions of radicals.

According to a deputy of the DPR People’s Council, Miroslav Rudenko, escalation of the conflict is for pro-US figures in the Ukrainian politics. In particular, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has repeatedly been accused by media of pedaling a military solution of the conflict in the east of the country.

However, the republics of Donbass are pinning their hopes for a quick meeting of heads of the ‘Normandy Quartet’.

“Perhaps, they will be able to take some decision in order to stop implementation of the escalation in that progression, which is taking place across all the contact line now. Maybe, it will fade immediately and the negotiation process will be continued. We will hope that something will happen in Paris,” Basurin noted.

It is only a matter of time before photos emerge of Putin and Assad biting the heads off children in East Aleppo. He does get around.
