the issue with the ukrainians here is they advance in areas where armour is of no use or function due to the terrain. the muddy wetlands prevent most vehicles. the russians on the other hand also have a very small contingent here, but maintain control through aviation and superior firepower. ukraine suffered dozens to hundreds dead on this front every days for empty land unsuitable for a proper bridgeh head.

the issue that remains is if the ukrainians lose adveevka in coming weeks, the russians will likely also take maryinka and threaten vuhledar. if the take these settlements the collapse on the ukrainians eastern flank would be too real and the any attempts at the kherson region would be purely wasting resources (as they are now). the wise think for ukraine would have been to dig in and create defense in depths and active defense. yet they fail to realize this.

Alyosha242

yes but they have not enough manpower and resources, moreover winter is approaching and with frozen terrain you cannot dig and create defense in depths…

CentralAsianStudies

you can always establish defense in depth, its just spring & summer favour it’s establishment dye to favorable conditions. russia established defensive lines at the end of winter & through spring. equipment is there. and relative manpower to establish. the issue lies with the cult of the offensive ukraine has forced upon itself. the west only see winning by grand offensives and taking land. they fail to see a defense is capable of destroying an enemy & bridging a way to victory.

CentralAsianStudies

though what you say @alyosha242 is true. the time is against ukriane. every day is many less men to fortify and dig in. everyday the ground gets colder and harder to work into fortifications. every day the russians build up their forces and destroy ukraine’s existing weapons and stores.

CentralAsianStudies

at this point, even if the ukrainians dig in and manage a defense. it will be one that only slows down the future russian push. that is only certain. something ukrianian generals, and western leaders have benefits saying and hinting too for the past weeks

i don’t know what the topographical relief is here, but i imagine these could be areas that are especially exposed to fire from the ukrainian side of the dnieper so the russians don’t want to station troops there and choose more advantageous locations nearby instead.for example if there was a hill on one side then a small plain and hill on the other, the plain would be quite exposed and it might be better to be just behind the hilltop.

thats right. there no free walkovers. leeves and trees might count a lot too.

the russians has huge losses. we soon will see the fiirst armed horses – joke. they are their supply too .

jens holm

i see no putin statues in kiev.

i can only see russians has to dig too.

mabee you can immigate hamas and hisbollah. you have lot of space.

it would solve many things. you have lack of men and they dont drink.

jens holm

many are surpriced at both sides.

its very visible here every day by the russian lovers.

ukras are not sitting ducks at all. and parts of needs now are routine.

the lack at both side are good officers. many are ded. many says it takes at least 3 years to make new good lines.

i have have followed usa from 1938 starting 400.000 to 1945. that was almost only yougsters and they har to give them high ranks fast. .

they too often got follow the rules by the book ones. but after time the upgraded those with real talent.

the americans knew that. thats why they made exencent artilliry and air support.

and a funny one. according stalin there many americans, which didnt die

jens holm

the ukras know their country well and has better logistics and short way to goo.

so far the both has created good deep defenline.

i think you are too optimictic. i might me wrong.

jens holm

the kherson route to crimea appears to be the quickest and least defended to nato but kherson was abandoned by russia to allow ukraine into the shooting gallery.
