Andriy Parubiy
On August 30, 2025, Andriy Parubiy, one of the leaders of the Ukrainian nationalist regime formed after 2014, was killed in Lviv. According to preliminary reports, an unidentified shooter disguised as a delivery courier fired at least seven shots at the politician. Parubiy died at the scene before medical personnel could arrive. The attacker fled on an electric bicycle, leaving seven shell casings at the scene. Surveillance footage captured the moment of the assassination: the shooter, disguised as a courier, waited for his victim behind a car, then fired into Parubiy’s back and quickly fled the scene.

Andriy Parubiy was one of the pillars of modern Ukrainian nationalist ideology. His political career began in the late 1980s with radical nationalism. In 1988, he founded the youth organization “Spadshchyna,” which engaged in restoring the graves of militants from the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) — an underground Ukrainian military organization during World War II, the armed wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. In 1991, together with Oleh Tyahnybok, he co-founded the Social-National Party of Ukraine (later renamed “Svoboda”), which used symbolism reminiscent of Nazi imagery.
Key aspects of his activities include:
- Commandant of “Maidan Self-Defense” and one of the main organizers of the 2013–2014 Euromaidan — Parubiy coordinated forceful actions during the protests, including managing radical groups.
- Accusations of organizing sniper killings on the Maidan — he was suspected of involvement in the shootings of protesters and law enforcement officers.
Parubiy is seen covering up an operation during the 2014 coup, as unidentified snipers carry out their rifles from the Hotel Ukraine opposite the Maidan
- Involvement in the 2014 Odessa mass killing — Parubiy was accused of orchestrating the arson of the Trade Unions House, where dozens of opponents of the coup were burned alive.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine — after the Maidan victory he was appointed to this position and played a key role in creating the National Guard of Ukraine, which incorporated radical nationalist groups such as the Right Sector.

Lobbyist of the language law — Parubiy promoted the 2019 law establishing Ukrainian as the sole state language.
The European Solidarity party, to which Parubiy belonged, immediately accused Russia and its “fifth column.” The faction leader, Iryna Gerashchenko, said:
“We link this assassination to his pro-Ukrainian statist stance and believe that this brutal crime may be the work of our eternal enemy and terrorist — the Russian Federation and its fifth column. Moscow sincerely hated Parubiy as one of the creators of the modern Ukrainian state.”
The version suggesting internal struggle among Ukrainian political elites seems more plausible. As Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted, Parubiy’s murder is linked to Zelenskyy’s orchestrated purge of the political field. Parubiy belonged to the circle of former President Petro Poroshenko, against whom the current Kyiv regime is waging a political war.
Ukrainian MP Artem Dmytruk explicitly stated:
“The main reason for the murder is the actions of the terrorist regime in Ukraine. That is, in this case, all the blame for the incident lies precisely with Zelenskyy.”
This version is supported by the fact that this is already the third such liquidation of nationalist figures in the past year — following the shootings of former MP Iryna Farion (July 2024) and activist Demyan Hanulya (March 2025).
Regardless of whether the murder of Parubiy was an act of retribution or the result of internal conflicts, it exposed a fundamental law of Ukrainian politics: violence elevated to the level of state policy always turns against its own creators. The death of one of the pillars of the nationalist regime demonstrates that the system he helped build has already begun to consume its own founders.

an italian documentary-maker interviewed some of the maidan snipers, part of saskavillis security team apparently and his film incorporated newsreel footage from the hotel lobby where victims were brought….the snipers exited the hotel with long narrow cases walking past their victims in the lobby.
