On September 20-21, the ratio of attacking UAVs was in Russia’s favor: according to the Russian Defense Ministry, 19 Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian territory, while Ukraine reported the launch of 54 Russian UAVs of the “Geran” and “Gerbera” types, of which 33 were shot down.
The main Ukrainian UAV strike targeted Crimea, where Russian air defense forces shot down 12 drones and another 4 over the Black Sea waters, in addition to the use of “Neptune” anti-ship missiles. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (GUR MOU) stated that the “Prymary” special forces unit conducted an operation that damaged three Mi-8 multipurpose helicopters and the 55Zh6U “Nebo-U” radar station—a high-tech meter-wave radar capable of detecting targets at distances of up to 600 km and altitudes of up to 80 km. Photos of the damaged radar station and one of the destroyed helicopters were presented as confirmation of the operation’s success.

The attacks were carried out using kamikaze drones and combined tactics, including the use of FPV-type drones, analogues of “Lancets,” and “Neptune” missiles, indicating targeted efforts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to weaken the Russian air defense system in the northwestern part of Crimea. These actions are assessed to be potentially related to preparations for possible sabotage or landing operations on the peninsula. Russian sources note the growing activity of Ukrainian forces in this direction and the need to strengthen countermeasures, including the deployment of additional electronic warfare (EW) assets and mobile fire groups.
Furthermore, the use of long-range underwater vehicles is mentioned as part of the development of Ukraine’s sabotage capabilities, adding a new dimension to the threats in the region.
At the same time, reports indicate that the UAV strike also caused civilian casualties and damage across the peninsula. Around 15 people were injured, with fatalities confirmed though their number is still being clarified. According to local sources, several facilities of the Foros sanatorium, the Terletsky boarding house, and a school building in one of the settlements sustained damage. Falling debris from intercepted drones also sparked fires in dry grass near Yalta.

A strike was also carried out near an airbase where the presence of F-16 fighters had previously been noted. Chernihiv Region: Strikes affected an oil depot in Bakhmach and facilities in Chernihiv. In Nizhyn, a serious fire broke out at an infrastructure facility, and during its liquidation, a follow-up strike occurred, wounding two rescue workers. Reports also indicate the destruction of Ukrainian Armed Forces training camps and a locomotive in Chernihiv.

Ukrainian sources report that yesterday’s attack (September 20) damaged not only oil refineries in Samara and Saratov regions but also two oil pumping stations of the “Kuibyshev–Tikhoretsk” pipeline, as well as the “Samara” linear production dispatch station (where oil is blended to create the Urals export blend).
