Ukrainian Counteroffensive Fails To Dislodge Russian Forces Near Orekhov

In the Krasny Liman direction, Ukrainian units intensified attacks in the Katerinovka, Novy, and Redkodub areas, leading to an expansion of the “gray zone” and possible consolidation on certain positions; in Krasny Liman itself, footage has emerged of Ukrainian troops on the central square. In the Dobropolye direction, after the capture of Kucherov Yar and Annovka, Russian units have closely approached Dobropolye, with fighting continuing on the outskirts. In the Sumy region, Russian forces consolidated in Novokonstantinovka and advanced on 20 sectors up to 600 meters. In the Kharkiv region, the “Volchansk cauldron” is forming; there are successes in Kazachya Lopan and an advance of up to 800 meters in the Volchansk direction. In the Zaporozhye direction, Russian units captured Dolinka and are fighting for Novosoloshino, aiming to reach the Egorovka – Krasny Rodnik line. Against this backdrop, France intends to limit the duration of exemptions allowing Ukraine to purchase weapons from non-European suppliers using the EU’s €90 billion loan.

Krasny Liman direction

Reports from the Krasny Liman direction indicate Ukrainian attacks in the Katerinovka, Novy, and Redkodub areas. Between Novy and Katerinovka, several strongpoints are located. Some of these positions have come under Ukrainian control. From there, Ukrainian units attempted to advance further south, signaling a strike toward Kolodezy.

High Ukrainian activity persists in the vicinity of Dibrova. In addition, they are conducting forays further east, toward Yampol. Footage of a strike on a Ukrainian assault fighter on the shore of a lake in the forest area serves as confirmation.

Earlier, contradictory information had emerged from this area regarding a possible loss of control over Shandrigolovo by Russian units and the Ukrainian side “cutting off” the wedge near Svyatogorsk.

Dobropolye direction

Yesterday, the capture of Kucherov Yar was announced, and today Annovka, which directly adjoins Dobropolye. If the information about consolidation in Annovka is confirmed, it will be possible to speak of the start of fighting for Dobropolye itself. This is still premature, as the approaches to the city are characterized by open terrain that is difficult to cross.

To the south and southwest of Dobropolye, fighting also continues. Russian units are attempting to advance on the Shevchenko – Grishino line toward the village of Krivorozhye. The advance is being conducted by small groups through a chain of villages that Ukrainian units have turned into strong points and that are heavily damaged.

Sumy direction

Assault units of the “North” grouping continue to move deeper into the Sumy region, advancing on several sectors. The Ukrainian side did not conduct active offensive operations, instead focusing on drone attacks against civilians.

Russian aviation, artillery, and drone crews struck concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment in the areas of Sumy, Marino, Sadki, Konotop, Nedrigaylov, Tolstodubovo, Korop, and Lozovoye.

In the Sumy district, Russian units consolidated in Novokonstantinovka and advanced on twenty sectors by 600 meters.

In the Shostka district, Russian assault groups are conducting firefights in forest belts near Yastrebishchina.

Kharkiv direction

Units of the “North” grouping continue to form the “Volchansk cauldron” in the north of Kharkiv region. Successes have also been achieved in Kazachya Lopan. Russian Aerospace Forces aviation and strike drone crews struck concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment in the areas of Kharkiv, Velikiye Prokhody, Prikolotnoye, Berezhnoye, Dolzhanka, Gogino, Chernoglasovka, and Prudyanka.

In the Kazachya Lopan area, Russian assault groups advanced through forest belts on the outskirts of the settlement. During the fighting, a serviceman of the 58th separate motorized infantry brigade of Ukrainian forces was captured.

In the Volchansk direction, heavy fighting continues in the Vasilevka area. Over the past day, total advance amounted to up to 800 meters.

In the Velikiy Burluk direction, Russian assault units advanced in the Dolzhanka area.

Zaporozhye direction

In the Orekhov direction, Dolinka became the last large village east of the so-called Line 1. Beyond this line, Ukrainian units are attempting to hold positions and prevent the “East” grouping from outflanking Orekhov. Ukrainian counterattacks on Novosoloshino are not aimed at a serious counteroffensive but at pushing Russian forces back beyond this line. Meeting engagements are fierce. In Novosoloshino itself, control largely remains with Russian units. Small groups of Ukrainian troops continue to infiltrate into basements, but drone operators are systematically eliminating them. Simultaneously, additional clearance of Dolinka is underway to finally push Ukrainian units back and begin breaching Defense Line 1 on a broad front.

Slightly south of Novoselovka, Russian units are attempting to reach the Egorovka – Krasny Rodnik line on a broad front. In Orekhov itself, the “Dnepr” grouping is fighting; clashes are becoming increasingly fierce. Reports indicate that Russian units have consolidated on the southern outskirts of the city and are developing pressure northeast, threatening the flanks.

Conclusion

In the Krasny Liman, Dobropolye, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporozhye directions, Russian units are conducting active combat operations, maintaining the initiative on most sectors, though the Ukrainian side is making persistent attempts at counterattacks and infiltration. In the Krasny Liman direction, the situation remains tense due to possible Ukrainian consolidation in the “gray zone” and their presence in Krasny Liman itself. In the Dobropolye direction, Russian forces have closely approached Dobropolye, but crossing open terrain remains a difficult task. In the Sumy region, the advance continues, though the Ukrainian side is focused on drone attacks against civilians. In the Kharkiv region, the formation of the “Volchansk cauldron” and successes in Kazachya Lopan create conditions for further advance. In the Zaporozhye direction, the struggle for Orekhov and adjacent lines continues, where Russian units are gradually expanding control but facing stubborn resistance.

According to Euronews, France intends to limit the duration of exemptions allowing Ukraine to purchase weapons from non-European suppliers using the EU’s €90 billion loan. Under the loan terms, Ukraine may purchase weapons outside the EU and the European Economic Area if European manufacturers are unable to provide the required volume, cannot meet deadlines, or offer excessively high prices, but the share of such purchases must not exceed 35% of the total amount. France is pushing to shorten the duration of these exemptions, aiming to ensure that the bulk of the funding supports European—including French—defense production. Among the exemptions requested by Kyiv are American interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
