On December 3, the Russian military captured another settlement close to the key city of Huliaipole and made additional gains near the settlement of Stepnogorsk to the west in Zaporozhye.
The capture of Chervonoye, also known as Vysoke, to the east of Huliaipole, was announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which said that the attack on the settlement was led by the the 38th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 35th Combined Arms Army, a part of the Vostok [East] Group of Forces.
In a statement, the ministry said that Kiev forces lost ten pieces of military equipment and a number of troops during the fighting in Chervonoye, adding that an area of 12 square kilometers, including the settlement and its surroundings, was secured as a result of the battle.
“The liberation of the settlement opened the Vostok Group of Forces the way to Gulyaipole (Huliaipole) direction and made it more difficult for the enemy to hold their defenses in that area,” the ministry noted.
Video footage from the battle in Chervonoye revealed that the Russian Aerospace Forces played a key role in the capture of the settlement. The footage shows intense airstrikes with UMPK-equipped guided glide bombs on the position of Kiev forces there.
In addition to the capture of Chervonoye, the Vostok Group of Forces made additional gains along the Haichur River to the north of Huliaipole.
Russian troops have reportedly stormed Varvarivka and established positions in the northern settlement of the settlement, which was the last before the city on the eastern bank of the Haichur. Kiev forces will not likely be able to hold onto their positions in the settlement for more than a few days.
It’s worth noting that the Vostok Group of Forces is already battling Kiev forces inside Huliaipole, mainly in the eastern and southern parts of the city. The Russian military could capture the city within a few months.
To the west in Zaporozhye, the group is rapidly developing its operations around Stepnogorsk after breaking through Ukrainian defenses there.
Most of the settlement has been already captured by Russian troops, but Kiev forces are still fighting in the center. To the east and southeast of the settlement, Vostok Group of Forces expanded its control significantly, clearing more than 10,5 square kilometers.
The battle in Stepnogorsk could end in favor of the Russian military within a few weeks. Once this happens, the Vostok Group of Forces will likely develop its attack in nearby Prymorske right on the Dnieper River.
Recent battles in Huliaipole and Stepnogorsk indicate that Kiev forces are facing serious problems on all levels in Zaporozhye. Ukraine seems incapable of stopping the collapse of its defenses in these directions. A complete collapse there may be just around the corner.
