Ukrainian Army Launched Offensive in South of DPR

Several groups of infantrymen, supported by armored vehicles, are trying to capture the territory in the vicinity of Kominternovo village.

Ukrainian troops have launched an offensive in the southern direction, the press service of the Defense Ministry of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) reported. The Ukrainian Armed Forces call this direction ‘Sector-M’ – on the first letter of the name of the city of Mariupol.

The Donetsk news agency reported about holding an urgent briefing, during which representative of the DPR Defense Ministry, Colonel Eduard Basurin, reported about fierce battles in the area of Kominternovo.

“Since morning, shelling is conducted with mostly light weapons in Kominternovo. The enemy has attempted to capture the territory near the village,” Basurin said.

Meanwhile, the Zvezda TV-channel reported that several groups of Ukrainian troops, each of which is numbering up to 30 people, are attacking Kominternovo with the support of armored vehicles. In addition, they are attempting to surround the forefront positions of DPR fighters. There is no information about how many forces are being involved in the offensive of the Ukrainian Army and how many pieces of military equipment they are using. At the moment, it is known that the DPR People’s Militia is opposing attempts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break into the territory of the DPR in the southern direction.

At the same time, the Ukrainian side does not stop to shell the territory of the republic in other areas. Shelling is carried out in the area of Yasinovataya, where a sabotage group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, supported by artillery, has attempted to break through to Donetsk, recently. The attempt was thwarted by concerted actions of soldiers of the DPR Army.

In recent days, the situation has also worsened in the south of the DPR, in Novoazovskiy region. Every day the Ukrainian Army shells settlements. According to the DPR, these attacks claim lives mostly of civilians.

On October 9, Eduard Basurin also reported that US snipers have arrived to the so-called Georgian Legion, which is a minor unit of the 25th armored infantry battalion of the Ukrainian Army.
