On the morning of 5 January 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a new offensive in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, as previously reported, the Ukrainian Army conducted a concentration of significant forces and means in the rear in this direction.
The offensive began early this morning from the settlements of Martynovka and Pushkarnoye, which had previously been occupied by Ukrainian units.

According to sources on the ground, the AFU used at least 2 battle tanks and 2 IFVs in the first wave of the offensive.
The offensive from Suja towards Bolshoye Soldatskoye and Berdino has also begun. In this direction, engineering equipment is being used for mine clearance and road clearing. Initially, offensive actions were carried out in small groups. Now a significant force of Ukrainian infantry, supported by APCs and IFVs, is moving in. Ukrainian units continue to accumulate near the border.

Objective control footage shows that the Ukrainians have already lost up to 12 units of armoured vehicles, including IFVs and battle tanks.
At the beginning of the offensive, the AFU used powerful means of radio-electronic warfare, making it difficult for the Russians to use drones.
As expected, the offensive began before 20 January, that is, before Trump’s inauguration.
