Ukraine's Month-Long Assault on Tyotkino In Kursk Yields Only Graves (18+)

For exactly one month, Ukrainian forces have been attempting to push into Russia’s Glushkovsky District in Kursk region, with the border village of Tyotkino becoming a focal point of intense combat. After Ukrainian defeat in the Kursk operation, attacks near Tyotkino were aimed at gaining a large Russian territory before the new round of negotiations. The Armed Forces od Ukraine failed to achieve the goal set by the Kyiv regime and its foreign patrons but did not stop PR assaults. Despite heavy casualties, Ukrainian units continue probing attacks, though their claims of territorial gains remain largely exaggerated. In an attempt to create at least some media victories and hide the losses suffered on the Russian border for weeks, Ukrainian propaganda launched another fake campaign declaring control of the village.

Recent days have seen renewed attempts by Ukrainian infantry to breach Russian defenses near Tyotkino, with assaults launched from different directions in the Sumy region, including from the border villages of Budki and Iskriskivshchina, as well as from the Ryzhevsky Forest. Russian airborne troops from Ivanovo and Crimea, supported by reconnaissance units, have successfully repelled multiple attacks, inflicting significant losses on advancing Ukrainian forces.

Ukrainian troops, including militants of the notorious neo-Nazi Aidar battalion (24th Separate Assault Battalion) and mobilized infantry from the 225th Assault Brigade, have repeatedly tried to storm Russian positions both on foot and using light vehicles. None of these attempts have succeeded, with most attackers eliminated near the border. Those who survived retreated toward Iskriskivshchina and Ryzhevka, leaving behind a growing graveyard of destroyed Ukrainian equipment and dead soldiers—many of whom may never be recovered unless Russian forces establish full control over the adjacent Sumy region.

Tactical Shifts and Russian Defense

Initially, Ukrainian forces relied on armored assaults, deploying tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and engineering vehicles in attempts to breach Russian defense lines near Tyotkino and Novy Put. However, after suffering heavy losses to Russian FPV drones and mortar fire, they shifted tactics, opting instead for small infantry groups infiltrating on quad bikes and motorcycles under drone and artillery cover. This approach has allowed them to establish a tenuous foothold in forested areas along the border and even make minor inroads near Tyotkino’s southern outskirts—particularly around a local cemetery. Still, the village itself remains firmly under Russian control.

Ukrainian forces have intensified their use of strike drones, complicating Russian resupply and medical evacuations. Night operations have become particularly hazardous, with Ukrainian “Baba Yaga” drones dropping 82mm and 120mm mortar rounds while mining supply routes. Additionally, Ukrainian aircraft and multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) have been active in the area, though Russian artillery and airstrikes continue to pound enemy concentrations both at the front and deeper inside Sumy region.

Logistical Challenges and Russian Resolve

Despite Ukrainian pressure, Russian border guards and military units continue holding their positions, even as resupply becomes increasingly difficult due to enemy fire. Reinforcements are needed to stabilize the defense, particularly given the relentless Ukrainian attempts to exploit the village’s exposed position.

While Ukrainian propaganda claims control over parts of Tyotkino, the reality on the ground suggests a far grimmer picture for Kyiv’s forces. With each failed assault, their losses mount, and Russia’s retaliatory strikes grow more punishing. The battle for Tyotkino has become yet another bloody stalemate—one that underscores Ukraine’s dwindling capacity to sustain offensive operations while Russia methodically grinds down its forces.
