On August 10, Ukraine launched an attack with suicide drones on the Russian regions of Kaluga and Moscow as well as the city of Sevestapol in the Crimean Peninsula.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the attack was thwarted with air defense systems and electronic warfare means.
“Last night, the Kiev regime’s attempts to carry out terrorist attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles were thwarted over the Kaluga and Moscow regions, and the city of Sevastopol,” the statement reads.
According to the ministry, air defenses intercepted two drones which were flying towards Moscow city over the Maloyaroslavets district of the Kaluga region and the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region.
“Air defenses hit two drones near the city of Sevastopol, while another nine drones were jammed by electronic warfare systems, failed to reach their targets and crashed into the Black Sea. The thwarted terrorist attacks did not cause any casualties or damage,” the ministry added.
Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that two drones had been intercepted by air defenses. One of the drones was shot down in the Kaluga Region and the other near Moscow’s Central Ring Road.
Meanwhile, Kaluga governor, Vladislav Shapsha, said that fragments of downed Ukrainian drones didn’t cause any casualties or material losses.
“Air defenses downed an unmanned aerial vehicle in the Maloyaroslavets District at 4:03 a.m. today. There were no casualties or damage,” the governor wrote on his Telegram channel.
The new attack came as Kiev forces, who launched a counteroffensive in the special military operation zone more than months ago, continue to struggle to make any gains.
In the Kherson direction, the Russian military destroyed two Ukrainian army boats and a howitzer, according to a spokesman for the regional emergency services.
“In the past 24 hours, two boats, ten Ukrainian militants and a D-30 howitzer with ammunition were destroyed in the island zone as a result of damage by firepower inflicted by units of the Dnepr battlegroup,” the spokesman said.
The Russian military also destroyed a Msta-B towed howitzer along with ammunition and a deployment point made up of four vehicles and a 120 mm mortar with its crew and ammunition in the same direction.
The spokesman added that a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer and a position of Kiev forces were targeted and destroyed in the Kakhovka direction.
In the Krasny Liman direction, the artillery and aviation of the Russian Tsentr Group of Forces targeted the assault groups of two Ukrainian army brigades.
“In the Krasny Liman direction, attack aircraft strikes and artillery fire inflicted damage on assault groups of the Ukrainian army’s 21st and 67th mechanized brigades in the area of Chervonopopovka and the Serebryansky forestry. The enemy’s losses amounted to 50 militants, an infantry fighting vehicle and a pickup truck,” a spokesman for the group, Alexander Savchuk, told TASS.
The spokesman added that the group’s fighter bombers carried out airstrikes against two command and observation posts, a field ammunition depot and an electronic warfare system near Torskoye and Serebryanka.
“In the Svatovo direction, army aircraft of the battlegroup Center struck assault groups of the Ukrainian army’s 68th jaeger brigade, destroying a pickup truck and up to ten militants,” the spokesman said.
In addition, the artillery of the group destroyed a BM-21 multiple rocket launcher and a D-20 towed howitzer of Kiev forces. Three drones were also shot down by the group’s air defenses over Rubezhnoye, Novoaleksandrovka and Varvarovka, according to Savchuk.
Meanwhile in the Kupyansk direction, the Russian Zapad Group of Forces captured five strongholds, four observation posts and defeated an infantry platoon in the Olshan area.
The group also announced that it had repelled five counterattacks by the 67 and 14 separate mechanized brigades. Kiev forces lost a platoon of infantry during the fighting.
Ukraine’s 25th Separate Airborne Brigade and 32nd Separate Mechanized Brigade also carried out attacks against the group’s positions in Novoselovskoe. However, all of the attacks were repelled and a platoon of infantry was neutralized.
Moreover, the group’s artillery destroyed two 120 mm mortars near Kislovka and Dvurechnaya as well as an ammunition depot in Novoselovskoye. A Buk air defense system of the group also intercepted several HIMARS precision-guided rockets over Tavolzhanka.
In addition, Russian news sources shared videos showing four recent strikes with artillery and Lancet loitering munitions that targeted three howitzers and a German-made Leopard-2 tank of Kiev forces. Another video that surfaced online showed a successful night raid by Russian special forces against a stronghold of Kiev forces.
All in all, Ukraine’s counteroffensive is clearly failing. The increase in attacks on Russian territory appears to be an attempt by the Kiev regime to deflect attention from this reality.

is the russian defence ministry proud to announce that ukr drones are able to penetrate russian air space? or are they being launched from within rus itself? either way putin & shoigu should be ashamed that after 18 months the smo has singularly failed to meet any of its stated objectives (digging trenches to defend crimea doesn’t count).
it seemes that i is good in suking dieks, i do not discriminaite, can suk black, ukra, rusticas, all mens
glad that russia managed to thwart these attacks. there needs to be people to watch for them and this cannot be ignored. this has to be the case all over russia, you have to over defend yourselves.
as previously stated, the long plan of surrounding a ukrainian city and knee jerking the remaining competent forces of the ua(non conscript fodder ie azov, aidar, dnepro remains of kraken remains of other nationalists forces) into engagement relief is in full swing. russia keeps the ua busy in several areas and does not allow them to break whilst the ua now must evacuate kupiansk which is falling to superiour armed and trained russian forces.
they took the bait boys!
russia should have taken ukraine bit by bit, no retreats, no sitting back, no energy sales to ukr/eu, no negotiation. rus, a superpower, has superior weapons, aircraft, missiles & soldiers but has allowed afu back into the conflict time & again. rus should be attacking not defending, ukr should be running scared, not the poor people of donbass. who are the 5th columnists responsible for these rus failures?
