Early on October 1, a series of drone and missile strikes which were reportedly launched by the Russian military hit different parts of Ukraine resulting in material losses.

The Ukrainian Air Forces said in a statement that its air defenses shot down 16 out of around 30 suicide drones which were launched by the Russian launched from the southern, southeastern and northern directions.

Cherkasy Governor Ihor Taburets said on the Telegram messaging application that the region came under the attack and acknowledged losses.

“At night, the enemy massively attacked our Cherkasy region with attack drones. Unfortunately, there were hits on industrial infrastructure in (the city of) Uman,” Taburets said. “As a result, fires broke out in warehouses. In particular, where grain was stored.”

The Ukrainian presidential office said in a statement that infrastructure and warehouses were also damaged in the Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

The Ukrainian Air Forces also reported that the Kherson region was targeted with 16 precision guided missiles. There was no information on damages or casualties, according to the air force spokesperson Natalia Humeniuk.

In addition, a large blast was reported in the capital, Kiev. There were no warning sirens before the blast. While Ukrainian media said that the blast was just an accident caused by a faulty gas cylinder, Russian sources alleged that Kiev was targeted with ballistic missiles.

Following the strikes on Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported two failed attacks with drones on Russian territory.

In two separate statements, the ministry said that two drones were shot down by Russian air defenses over the Krasnodar and Smolensk regions. No casualties or material losses were reported by the ministry or any other sources.

Ukraine stepped up attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks to make up for the failure of its counteroffensive. As a response, the Russian military has been launching strikes against Ukraine on a nearly daily basis. Despite sustaining heavy losses, the Kiev regime continues to escalate.
