Ukraine admitted that a large facility used to store drones and other ammunition near the town of Milaya in Kyiv was wiped out as a result of a pinpoint Russian strike on August 28, with visual evidence confirming that the country’s leading drone manufacturer, Fire Point, was operating there.
Videos posted to social media, seemingly taken near the scene, showed a huge explosion with multiple secondaries, and the fire burned on into the next day.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said on August 29 that the facility struck near Milaya was used to store components and launch boosters for long-range FP-1 and FP-2 one-way attack drones manufactured by Fire Point. Footage of the aftermath of the strike aired by Ukrainian media confirmed this and also revealed that boosters used in the FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles, made by the same company, were also stored there.
In the same statement, the ministry said that two other facilities were struck in Kyiv: the Fim Service transport and logistics centre in Chayki, which was used to store Flamingo missiles, and a logistics centre in Kalinovka, which is used as a dispatch point for military cargo from western countries.

Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, said that at least 37 people were killed as a result of the explosion of the facility near Milaya.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office announced that a pre-trial investigation into possible “negligence” surrounding storage conditions at the facility had been launched.
“In particular, the legality of the placement and storage of explosive objects and materials on the territory of the enterprise, the availability of the necessary permits and approvals, as well as the actions of officials who made the relevant decisions will be checked,” it said in a statement.
In a post on X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the facility hit in the “first” strike as an “ammunition storage site that definitely shouldn’t have been there.”
The facility was used to store drones, shells, mines, and other types of ammunition for Ukrainian forces, Zelenskyy acknowledged, while calling it a “terrible situation and terrible negligence on the part of those who stored explosives right next to people.”
This latest strike once again makes clear that Ukraine continues to place weapons production and storage sites inside civilian facilities in the middle of populated areas, paying no attention to the danger this creates for the people living nearby.
At the same time, the attack shows that Russian strikes are not only growing in frequency, but are also becoming noticeably more accurate, reflecting both better intelligence and higher precision of the weapons being used.

for ukraine to make any admission of this type is a public milestone. bitter ukrainian families that have lost fathers, brothers and uncles may be locating military assets for targeting. i doubt ukraine can move anything without some russian awareness. quite a fireworks show.
