The United States renewed its strikes on areas controlled by the Iran-backed Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen on October 30.

Yemen’s Al-Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthis, reported that the western province of al-Hodeida was targeted, with at least one strike hitting the vicinity of the al-Hodeida University in the district of Hawak. No casualties were reported by the news channel.

The U.S. Central Command has not commented on Al-Masirah’s report. Usually, the command announces such strikes within a few days.

The strikes came after the Houthis launched multiple attacks earlier this week in response to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

On October 28, the Houthis said that their forces attacked three merchant vessels linked to Israel in the Red and Arab seas. And on October 29, the group attacked the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon with suicide drones, with at least one impact being reported.

The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea since last November. In addition, the group launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel and shot down at least eleven American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.

The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January. Israel also launched two waves of strikes against civilian infrastructure in the western Yemeni province of al-Hodeidah in July and September. However, the aerial campaign failed to deter the Houthis or degrade their capabilities.
