U.S. Dagger Inside Eurasia: Military Bases From Khmeimim To Bagram

U.S. Dagger Inside Eurasia: Military Bases From Khmeimim To Bagram

The push by United States President Donald Trump to retake the strategic Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan has led to calls in Washington for further military expansion in the belly of Eurasia, reaching even the coast of Syria.

Right after assuming office at the start of the year, Trump stated that if the withdrawal from Afghanistan happened under his administration, he would have kept control of Bagram.

Trump made his intention more clear earlier this month, calling the withdrawal in 2021 “so stupid” and openly demanding the Taliban to hand back the airfield, which he said is located just an hour away from the area in China where nuclear-armed missiles are manufactured.

In his latest remarks on the matter, he said that “bad things” will happen if the Taliban does not give back control of Bagram to the U.S.

“If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!!” Trump wrote on his social media company, Truth Social, on September 20.

The Taliban has already rejected Trump’s demands, with its spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid urging the U.S. to adopt a policy of “realism and rationality.”

“It should be recalled that, under the [2020] Doha Agreement, the United States pledged that ‘it will not use or threaten force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan, nor interfere in its internal affairs,” he said, noting that Washington needed to remain faithful to its commitments.

Despite this public stance, the Taliban is reported to be engaged in talks with the U.S., which could offer recognition and economic support in exchange for Bagram.

The U.S. invested heavily in Bagram Airfield during its 20-year presence in Afghanistan, transforming it from an aging facility into a major military hub capable of supporting up to 100,000 personnel and heavy aircraft operations.

While a precise total figure for spending exclusively on Bagram is not known, available data from U.S. military reports, congressional oversight, and analyses point to at least $1-2 billion in direct construction, infrastructure, and expansion projects at the airfield.

Trump says that he wants Bagram due to its proximity to China, but the airfield would also bring the U.S. military closer to the Ural and Siberia in Russia, as well as to the northern and western regions of Iran. It will also put it again close to the borders of both India and Pakistan.

The U.S. clearly sees the airfield as a critical part in a larger strategy meant to solidify its military posture in the belly of Eurasia.

Part of the same strategy is also Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which saw the deployment of upwards of 11,000 U.S. troops at the heights of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In recent years, Washington has repeatedly pushed Qatar to further invest in the air base, which hosts a forward headquarters of the U.S. Central Command, in the framework of a so-called Defense Cooperation Agreement. More than $8 billion were pledged by Doha.

The U.S. also invested significantly in the expansion and upgrading of Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan during the same period.

Based on available public data from U.S. Department of Defense announcements and congressional allocations, the total known spending on construction and related projects at the air base exceeded $265 million by 2022. The importance of the air base became even more apparent in the last two years, with the U.S. military using it to actively defend Israel from Iranian attacks.

The next area of interest for the U.S. military could be the coast of Syria. Calls to establish a presence there first emerged right after the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad was overthrown last December by Islamists rebels, who are now cosying up to Washington.

Literally on the day the regime fell, Michael Rubin, a senior fellow at the Washington-based American Enterprise Institute, called on the U.S. to strike a deal with Syria’s new government to take over the port of Tartus, where a Russian naval base is located.

“This would kill two birds with one stone: First, without a base in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Russian Navy could no longer easily ply its waters, and would instead remain in the Black Sea where the Ukrainians could pick them off if Putin does not make peace with reparations,” Rubin argued in his op-ed from December 8. “Second, as the Eastern Mediterranean grows in strategic importance, a turnkey base could be just what the United States requires to complement its permanent presence in Souda Bay and Alexandropouli, Greece. Frankly, a permanent U.S. Naval presence in Tartus would also help contain an increasingly irredentist and destabilizing Turkey.”

Trump’s push for Bagram, which coincident with a visit by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa to the U.S. to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, led to more talk about a possible military expansion on the coast of the country.

Walid Phares, a former advisor of Trump who is fairly active within the inner circles of Washington, on September 21 suggested that the U.S. should build its own naval base next to the port of Latakia, linking the proposal to Bagram.

“The United States should consider establishing a major base port on the Syrian coast, with #Latakia (possibly) being the optimal location,” Phares wrote on X. “Such a presence would enhance security in the eastern Mediterranean and strategically complement the reactivation of #Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. An expeditionary force based in Latakia could consist of approximately 20,000 military personnel.”

Russia does not have any presence in Latakia port. However, it maintains control over the strategic Khmeimim Air Base to the south along the coast. While Phares didn’t mention the air base, linking Latakia to Bagram, Al Udeid or Muwaffaq Salti would be impossible without it.

Prior to the fall of the Assad regime, Russia developed Khmeimim to the point where it could support all sorts of aerial operations and fortified the naval base in Tartus. The two bases put those operated by the United States in the northeastern region of Syria to shame

While Moscow has already engaged with the government in Syria on the highest levels, the two are yet to reach an understanding on the two bases.

In a recent interview, Sahraa describe Russia as an important global power and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, stressing that Syria had “inherited close ties with Moscow that must be preserved and managed calmly and wisely.”

Still, it will be very much impossible for Syria to reject a U.S. request to establish any form of military presence on the coast.

In fact, Sharaa’s recent warm words to Russia may be just a political maneuver meant to avoid any tensions while he tightly secures his relations with Washington. Considering that the emerging leader is very close to signing a security agreement with Israel with help from the U.S., this possibility is more than likely.

Whether Washington and Moscow could work out a solution if this happens, is another matter that is far more complicated.

The U.S. could use these large bases in the belly of Eurasia the same way it uses it aircraft carriers to protect its military power

China, Russia and Iran would be the immediate targets, but these bases will also be used to keep those close to the U.S. within that region in check.

The U.S. military would have much more freedom of operations in these bases, which are located in countries that Washington can completely control, than in other bases established under the gesture of NATO in countries like Turkey for example.

Overall, Trump’s plan for Bagram is only a part of a much larger strategy that began years earlier in Qatar and Jordan. A strategy that could soon move into Syria.

thats the problem, they would never declare something like this, cause they are all perfectly pr briefed and know what happens with their ass if they suck. but everone knows how america handles weaker countrys, with which kind of tactics they subvert every human movement, destroy and corrode every power inside the folk. they split us and we think our own crazy people fuck it up, in addition they brainwash our minds with all the stereotypes we need to split ourselfs and our family and friends.

MacZ

the usa has been not at war 12 years of its whole existence. that is what american “values” are.

a bunch of degenerated jewish rats robbing the whole world, killing dozens of millions “to pazifize” them, after that judging em with the highest possible pseudomoral, to than kill again 80 years millions over millions while stealing all they have, drawing new borders, split countrys, instead of paying for the shit you scum need with your worthless, selfprinted money though.

Itsthejews

it would be better if they all would focus on the jews behind trump and biden and the usa government. that is were the true power is. trump is just a tool a visitor of epsteins island who they blackmailed to do their bidding. just as they used a patsy to take the blame of the kirk assassination while a mossad agent did it to silence christian dissent. netanyahu has power over him and trump puts on the tiny funny hat the yarmukle and hughs the wailing wall of his masters.

they are not only in america.. in france, germany, belgium, italy, lebanon, poland, lithunia, skandinavia, england and every other relatively rich nation you will find their influence on minimally news media, banking, real estate, raw materials, communications and other crucial socially knotpoints. they own your opinion, your currency, your politicians, influencers and lots more!

americans have no values.. there are normal people in america that have normal values, rare but they are real. but these peoples kind to think has absolutly nothing to do with this political theatre, with all the jewish propaganda, all their infesticious conglomerates and their way to press the whole world in their hell of adiction, anarchy, terror & dictatorship. your country has lost its way 100 years ago, now its time to get rid of you arrogant, wasteful, superlative spitting rats.

Lazifol

bagram is just a diversion. one will rise soon enough in nepal. in syria, on the other hand, us for almost a decade holds what they were interested in (gas and oil) and their main interest for making a port is to secure its transport to europeans.

the nepal protest is a cia run spinoff. filtering and controlling information with the discord app was the primary tool of this color revolution. f.y.i. brian berletic of the new atlas explains this clearly.

all of which proves that brian berletic is more than correct, he hits the nail on the head. there is no difference between any u.s. politician, other than who gets the hot seat, the mission is the same and that’s known before they ever open their mouth. project 2025 tells you all you need to know and what they have planned. rump is following instructions to the letter…when he’s not following ‘which path to persia’, the plan on iran.

that plan, ‘which path to persia’, included the tactic of lying during negotiations and then attacking when iran was in talks. exactly what tramp did. find it and read it.
