On July 20, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) killed two suspected operatives of ISIS and captured another during a special operation in the northeastern Syrian governorate of al-Hasakah, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

The London-based monitoring group said that the operation took place in the town of Dashisha in the southern al-Hasakah countryside and was directly supported by the United States-led coalition.

The three operatives orchestrated a number of assassinations and shooting attacks in SDF-held areas in northeastern Syria In the past, the monitoring group said, adding that weapons and ammunition were seized from their hideouts.

The Dashisha operation came amid a surge in ISIS activities in SDF-held areas. According to the SOHR, the terrorist group’s cells have carried out 98 attacks in these areas since the start of the year. The attacks claimed the lives of 64 people, including 47 personnel of the SDF and 12 civilians.

Despite expanding its presence in northeastern Syria in recent months, the U.S.-led coalition actually decreased its operations against ISIS.

The terrorist group remains the U.S. main pretext for justifying its military presence in the war-torn country, which is not approved by the UN-recognized government in Damascus. Without the group, Washington will not likely be able to stay in the country for long.
