It is reported by the Turkish military that it carried out airstrikes in northern Iraq against PKK targets.

According to the Turkish Armed Forces website, it said the airstrikes had targeted weapon stores, shelters and other PKK sites in the Qandil area of northern Iraq.

On April 1st, the Turkish armed forces said in a written statement that the Turkish air force launched airstrikes at the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) targets in northern Iraq.

According to the statement, the airstrikes came as the response to the attack by the militant group against a police vehicle in Diyarbakir on March 31st.

Turkish military says it hits PKK targets in northern Iraq

Since the truce broke off in July 2015, 300 fighters of the Turkish security forces were killed. According to the Turkish General Staff, the Turkish military killed more than a thousand Kurdish fighters.

However, the Kurdish sources argue that hundreds of civilians were killed during the Turkish military operation against Kurdish militias.

The Turkish government has recently been engaged in an intensified crackdown on the country’s Kurdish population in the southeast since then violence has increased in Turkey. The country also has been carrying out airstrikes against Kurdish positions in Iraq and Syria.
