Turkish Drone Strike Hit SDF-Held Kobane In Northeastern Syria (Photos)

On October 20, a Turkish combat drone carried out an strike on the northeastern Syrian town of Kobane which is held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The strike targeted a civilian car that was parked in front of the Social Justice Committee building in the center of Kobane.

According to the Hawar News Agency, the strike wounded three civilians, Bakr Jradah, Ali Rashad and a child, Ali Lutfi. Jradah is reportedly a cochairman of the Social Justice Committee, which is overseen by the SDF’s Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

The drone strike came amid reports of a near Turkish operation against Kurdish forces in the countryside of Aleppo, where Kobane is located.

In August, a series of Turkish drone strikes on northeastern Syria claimed the lives of several commanders and fighters of the SDF.

Turkey is apparently using its combat drones to intimidate and deter the SDF and other Kurdish forces who recently stepped up their attacks on Turkish troops in the northern countryside of Aleppo. This tactic may fire back.

The SDF will likely respond to Kobane strike, as it responded to previous drone strikes. In return, Turkey may use any response as a pretext to launch its awaited operation in Syria.
