The Turkish Air Force conducted a series of air strikes, during which destroyed 12 targets in northern Iraq, Reuters reported. Turkish officials claimed that 30 Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants were killed by the airstrikes.

According to a statement, made by the Turkish army’s General Staff, Turkish aircraft targeted the Qandil Mountains, as well as the areas of Metina and Hakurk, where, as Turkish military believes, the PKK’s leadership is located. According to the Turkish side, many high ranking PKK militants lost their lives during the airstrikes.

The attack became a response to a killing of two Turkish soldiers that occurred earlier today in the Kurdish-dominated southeast Turkey.

A day before, late in the evening it became known that Turkish military’s artillery struck terrorists in northern Syria. Turkish soldiers carried out 99 strikes with assault howitzers on five targets. Reportedly, all targets were destroyed.
