Turkey’s Proxies Shelled Key Air Base In Northern Syria (Videos)

Between August 19 and 20, the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) carried out a series of rocket and mortar strikes on areas held by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern Aleppo countryside.

The strikes were a response to the August 19 rocket attack on al-Bab town, which claimed the lives of 17 people including six children.

One of the targets which were struck by the SNA was the Kuweires Military Aviation Institute, where the SAA trains its pilots and navigators. Russian military advisors are known to frequent the air base. No causalities or material losses were reported as a result of the strikes.

The results of the SNA’s strikes on SDF-held areas were more severe. An elderly woman was killed in the village of al-Nayrabiyah and a child was wounded in the village of Ghranata.

The deadly rocket attack on al-Bab may have been carried out by the SDF, or one of its proxies, in response to the August 18 Turkish drone strike on the northwestern al-Hasakah countryside. The strike claimed the lives of four children.

The situation in the northern Aleppo countryside remains tense. The Turkish military and its proxies will likely clash again with the SDF very soon. Moreover, the SAA could respond to the strikes that targeted the Kuweires Military Aviation Institute.

The northern countryside OF Aleppo may become the theater for the next major military confrontation of the Syrian war.
