Turkish authorities have increased their troops in Syria, sending additional tanks and armored vehicles across the border, the FAN news agency reported, citing an informed source in Turkish security agencies.

According to the source, Turkish authorities also placed a large number of tanks on the Turkish-Syrian border. Probably, it is connected with foiled terrorist attacks that were going to be carried out in Turkey by members of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group. According to preliminary data, on Thursday, military experts defused a number of improvised explosive devices, the Anadolu news agency reported.

At the same time, the Turkish Air Force inflicted airstrikes on positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Cukurca district in the province of Hakkari in the southeast of the country, the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces reported. As result, three Kurdish rebels were killed and PKK’s weapons warehouses were destroyed.

According to Turkish military, targets were hit during the air operation carried out on Thursday morning.

The PKK, which is forbidden by Turkish authorities, is accused of committing a series of terrorist attacks in the country. In recent months, the PKK claimed responsibility for several terrorist attacks carried out in Turkey. In response, Turkish authorities have stepped up an offensive against Kurds both on the territory of the country and abroad, in Syria.
