Trump’s Ceasefire Could End In Three, To Five Days Or Who Knows When

The United States is giving Iran a window of three to five days to respond to a proposed deal and return to talks, or risk the collapse of the current ceasefire, Israel’s Channel 12 reported on April 22, citing three American officials.

The report was the latest in a series of contradicting news on when the ceasefire, extended by U.S. President Donald Trump on April 21, will actually end.

Another report by Channel 12 itself, citing political sources in Israel, said that the effective deadline set by Trump falls on April 26 – generally matching the reported three-to-five-day timeframe.

The reporting contrasts with an earlier Reuters report, which cited a source saying that Trump had not formally set a deadline for extending the ceasefire.

Trump himself has not yet specified a timeline, likely to maintain pressure on Iran, and to achieve the element of surprise if he is to order the resumption of military operations against the Islamic Republic.

Amid this situation, Iran’s parliament speaker and top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that a complete ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports.

Ghalibaf said in a post on X that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is impossible with such a “flagrant breach of the ceasefire.”

The U.S. and Israel “did not achieve their goals through military aggression, and they will not achieve them through bullying,” he warned. “The only way is to accept the rights of the Iranian people.”

Earlier in the day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked three cargo ships close to the Strait of Hormuz and seized two of them. The attacks demonstrated the Islamic Republic control over the strategic waterway — a chokepoint for over 20 percent of global oil and liquid natural gas traffic.

Trump’s refusal to set a time limit for the ceasefire will only make Iran mistrust the U.S. even more. In such an atmosphere, it is hard to imagine the two sides reaching any agreement.

the us military assets are not quite ready and in position yet to attack iran again, hence the ceasefire extension. everything is a ruse to buy time, just look at past history, and look at the flight radars to see how much military stuff is being transported from usa and europe in preparation…

arabs can pay with oil over time but if iran destroys arabs gulf oil infrastructure, they can’t pay, & us taxpayers get stuck with more debt due to wars of choice for israel.
the gop will lose by a landslide in the midterms.
