United States President Donald Trump has shown openness to dialogue with Iran, despite considering serious military measures against the Islamic Republic, including a naval blockade and the assassination of senior officials, according to recent reports.
Trump earlier this month threatened military action if Iran killed protesters or carried out mass executions of prisoners, but he recently backed down, claiming the Islamic Republic halted the hangings of 800 detainees. Still, he ordered the deployment of additional U.S. military assets into the Middle East, including an aircraft carrier, fighter jets, and air defenses.
Despite the military buildup, Trump said in an interview with the Axios that was published on January 27 that Iran is interested in a diplomatic off-ramp to tensions with the U.S.
Iran is “in flux,” Trump told the American news website, noting that he sent significant American military assets to the region, while adding that Tehran is interested in a deal with Washington.
“We have a big armada next to Iran. Bigger than Venezuela,” Trump said.
“They want to make a deal. I know so. They called on numerous occasions. They want to talk,” he added.
In a subsequent briefing with reporters, a U.S. official said, “With regard to Iran, we are open for business. If they want to contact us, and they know what the terms are, then we’re going to have the conversation.”
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff earlier in the month set the conditions to any deal, saying that Iran will have to halt uranium enrichment, remove already-enriched uranium, cap its stockpile of long-range missiles and rollback support for proxies in the region.
While the Islamic Republic has expressed willingness to negotiate with the U.S., it has rejected those terms outright. Thus, the two sides remain far apart.
A report published later by The New York Times revealed that Trump received multiple U.S. intelligence briefings indicating that the hold of the Islamic government in Iran is weakening.
The report said that the intelligence indicates that “the Iranian government’s hold on power is at its weakest point since the shah was overthrown in the 1979 revolution.”
Two separate reports from a day earlier revealed that Trump is considering some very serious military options against the Islamic Republic.
The United Kingdom-based Middle East Eye said in a report that the U.S. is weighing precision strikes on “high-value” Iranian officials and commanders who it deems responsible for the deaths of protesters. Meanwhile, Israel’s i24NEWS reported that the Trump administration is studying a naval blockade to choke off Iran’s oil exports.
Any of these options on its own would be more than enough to spark a full-on war with Iran, which has already vowed to hit back hard.
It is highly unlikely that Tehran would accept any of the terms set by Washington, and at the same time it is highly unlikely that the U.S. would be able to attack Iran, or even just impose a blockade on it, without provoking a serious response. Due to these reasons, war seems inevitable at this point.
That being said, U.S. military assets currently present in the Middle East are far from enough for a war of this scale, even with the direct participation of Israel. The military buildup will likely accelerate, but an attack is likely still weeks away. Trump could order a second, and even a third aircraft carrier into the Middle East.

if iran does not make a preemptive strike, they will be destroyed for sure.
their chances are not great anyway.
china and russia are too cowardly to help. they are pussies.
so it appears.
taking into account what trump revealed and the testimony of the venezuelan guard, it is safe to assume that the u.s. military employed multiple systems at the same time to facilitate its operation in caracas. attributing all of these effects to a single system is unrealistic.

preemtive strike with what? the supreme mullah won’t let iran have effective weapons.
will not let them have nukes, however, iran has many hypersonics, that the us and nato lack.
why do you say russia and china are too cowardly to help? why don’t you believe that iran are strong enough to take on the us forces and israel on their own? they almost took israel out, back in june, but stopped when israel went begging to the us for help. then look at the rubbish in the us toy box? how much is in working order, let alone with any 21st century technology? think the pentagon might be surprised at what iran will do, if stupid enough try their tricks.
and “than” the strait of hormuz will be blocked… followed by an escalatation that will see dimona and by virtue of that escalation turned into a glowing “orb”… followed by the rest of i$rael!… perhaps russia and the u.$. are finally pulling out that ol’ wishbone and deciding on who will do the honors to that worst problem for the both of them since 1949?…
maybe the oligarchs in russia will get “lucky” and be allowed to sell the enemy some oil and gas for the enemies fiat currency
riddle me this, but why would russia need to supply their enemy with oil and gas? not as though they are lacking customers in the 80% of the planet, that owes 20% world debt. why would they need customers in the 20% of the planet that owes 80% world debt? remind me, how are the ukrainian oligarchs handling things at the moment?
instead of effing around with centerfuges for decades the ineffectual persians should have made some warheads
if they hit them again like they did last year with more tnt in the negev -they won’t need a nuke warhead!…
riddle me this, but how many hypersonic missiles, various categories have iran got, compared to the us, nato and their 1947 friend? remind me this, but who devised the khibiny electrical jamming system, that russia used on the uss donald cook, back in april 2014? now that was pure comedy, that left the us sailors traumatised, when a passing whicker basket flew over them.
trump and the worthless fickle gop senate got kicked out of minnesota so killing up some iranians is back on the agenda
is the us looking for a bloody nose? how many remember 2014, the uss donald cook and being left traumatised in the black sea? reason, a whicker basket of iranian goodies, flying over it and leaving the us sailors traumatised. that was back in 2014, and can you imagine the toys in the iranian toy box over 11 years later? somebody needs to put the us back in their box and many will be celebrating with iran, when that happens.
