Recently Syrian army, backed by local defense forces, regained control over the Mardj-al-Sultan military airbase located near Damascus. The Mardj-al-Sultan airbase is located in Douma, a town which is about 18 km away from the capital. It use to serve as a major stronghold of the terrorist group called Jaish al-Islam.

Now according to Iranian state-owned media Al-Alam News Network it has been confirmed that numerous terrorist groups in Syria did the same. They formed a new coalition which brought together Jaish al-Islam, the al-Nusra Front, Arhar al-Sham and other groups, led by Abu Khaled Islam and his next-in-command, Abu Bousam al-Barra.

As reported by many sources Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday the formation of an Islamic military coalition consisting of 34 Muslim majority countries to fight terrorism which will have its joint command operations center based in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

Iran and its allies Syria and Iraq were reportedly excluded from the alliance, despite the states sharing a common enemy in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.

Amin Shalaby the executive director of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs told Sputnik News on Tuesday that since the Islamic Coalition is represented by Sunni countries only this coalition has a very dangerous potential which could cause conflict between Sunnis and Shiites.
