Taliban Attack Killed 20 Afghan Soldiers (Map Update)

According to local authorities, Taliban militants carried out an attack on Afghan National Army in Bala Block of Farah province.

Gul Ahman Faqiri, a provincial council member, claimed that 20 Afghan army members were killed and 10 more were taken hostage. Taliban managed to take control over over the security post near Herat-Kandahar highway in Kansak in Bala Block district. A number of arms and ammunition was also seized by the fighters.

According to Faqiri, Taliban suffered a big number of casualties in clashes.

Taliban has not commented on the attack yet.

Intra-Afghan peace talks are taking place in Doha, which began on September 12. Over the past weeks, the number of hostilities has increased in Afghanistan.

Among other military developments in Afghanistan:

  • Chairman for the High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to discuss peace process and strengthening of bilateral ties;
  • Afghanistan National Police seized about 4000kg of sodium nitrate, a key component used to make IED, in a truck in Kabul city.
